What in the world are these? I was expecting them to be some form of spherical biltong/jerky, but from what I can make out all the flavours seem to be sweet?
Anyway - if they're still there next week, I shall be able to sample and report back!

This seems to be the new area for small scale/niche product promotion - last week there was an Irish Natural Yoghurt company there, and clearly the discussions the representative was having as he left were with a Baxter Storey employee.
My guested colleague couldn't quite work out the value proposition, but the exhibitor himself appeared to be pleased with the feedback and keen on a return.

It would appear from the tweet these are small, ball-shaped protein bar snacks, which would be on the sweet side (artificially sweetened, I would assume), yes.
Protein bars are quite popular with many who work out (they are sold in large supplies at both my gyms, at least), or if you just want or need a snack between meals.
Please do report back on your culinary experience, DrBernardo!
Steve_ZA, you appeared somewhat unhappy with this display of protein balls, would you care to elaborate on the nature of your displeasure?

Yay. This is great.
A lot of the 'snack' stuff you can take on a plane is very carb/sugar heavy, and it doesn't fill you up. Provided they have good behavior around allergies (i.e. have one or two that are glutenfree/dairyfree/vegan) they are exactly the sort of thing that are great for a meal-backup on board.

Given ice cream is, I think, already available on the menu - perhaps by request - promoting a directly competing product may not be so straightforward.

Personally I'm not a fan of the continued trend towards commercialisation of the lounge space. If it works for others then that's great.

They're not bad. Overpriced for what they are, but nowadays adding "protein" to anything bumps the price and that's a great opportunity for advertising to a certain demographic.

Sure they wait until I'm not flying half the time.
Nuts, yoghurts etc. a few days ago, nothing when i passed through the other day and now this when I'm not flying.
Something I would try for running purposes although they're generally a gimmick most of the time in my opinion.

Out of curiosity do any other lounges do this sort of thing with commercial stands? I personally haven't seen any but I am not that well travelled compared to many, many folks on here.

Not so keen on the Samsung stand type or bugaboo suitcase one

Strangely enough, there doesn't seem quite the same reaction to the various beer, cider and other alcohol led promotions, but yes there are promotions in GC and occasionally CCR too. There would be fairly obvious reasons why Flounge is preferred by some marketers.
