Why not? Sometimes, security people get suspicious of organic material and ask to check your hand luggage (so if I have a lot of it, I sometimes proactively take it out anyway) but it is absolutely allowable.

I brought cat-pooped beans back from Indonesia in hand luggage no problem ;)

This, I think... :)

I've done Nespresso capsules without any problem. Security not even pulled my bag for manual check.

CWS travels with a coffee + tea stash, sugar, water heater and mug in the all-in-one Skypak bag. No problems anywhere, including Australia, New Zealand and the USA, though I always mention it if asked if I have any food products on me. One never knows where one will end up, but I do know where I'll end up without caffeine in the morning. LHR and LIS won't be a problem.

And what did customs say? AFAIK, once the beans go through an animals intestines, you'll have a hard time getting it home.

Kopi Luwak (Civet coffee)

Why in the world would you take coffee TO Portugal? I always take bagloads of Delta coffee out of Portugal!

No issues ever in having a full carry-on bag of beans.

I brought home 3 large tubs of Folgers Colombian from New York in my carry-on the other week without anyone so much as raising an eyebrow...

Good heavens. To think I have been throwing the contents of my cat’s litter tray into the wheelie bin (double bagged of course)!

I could have sold it to Starbucks for megabucks (I always thought their coffee tasted like ....)!

I have 10 packages in my carry-on right now, my supplier in Jakarta gives them to me every visit.
