I have carried various organic matters including, in fact, coffee (although ground) in my hand luggage on BA flights and never had any issues with security or BA.

My husband travels with his own coffee, coffee dripper and whatever else he considers necessary for 'his' cup of coffee every flight he takes and he even annoyingly does DIY coffee on long haul flights from time to time. He has had no issues whatsoever except for the envious look from other passengers...

One never knows where one will end up, but I do know where I'll end up without caffeine in the morning. LHR and LIS won't be a problem.
Do you carry a standalone heating element rather than a kettle?

I saw one in the US ages ago but I haven't seen one around anywhere else. Do tell me if you know where to get the 240v one (the one I bought in the US was 110v).

I usually pack my coffee in my checked in luggage. I live in Louisana and can't do without my Louisiana coffee and chicory. No one has ever said anything.

I use a nominally 110v heating element, from REI in the USA. Because it's a very simple device, with no circuit board electronics, it works perfectly well on 240v, it is just twice as fast as boiling up.

Has anyone done this recently?

I don't think the rules have changed, but do they need to be put into a clear plastic bag etc?

For the USA, TSA restrict ground coffee to 350ml in carry on. Anything larger should be checked

on a somewhat unrelated note....Mrs R was once pulled aside at a German airport when she put her carry-on through the scanner. Turns out she was coming home with a stash of proper German marzipan, and the chemical signature of the almond paste is not dissimilar to certain explosives and was picked up by the electronic sniffer thing (all sounds quite high-tech...?)

weirdly, this can't have been the first time it has happened since the staff were very quick to guess (before even opening her bag) that she might have a large quantity of marzipan in there

I think we can say this joins the "electronic devices must have sufficient power to be switched on" in terms of implementation rigour. I spent about a month religiously following the new policy until agants started to move the coffee back on to other trays. The TSA has given up on this one. Capsules are no problem at all, pack as normal would be my advice.

Mazipan, on the older scanners, had the same consistency as Semtex.

My bag was taken aside for manual check at the first wing. The culprit? Two tubs of clotted cream rice pudding from m&s. It was explosives tested and x-rayed and poked and prodded. But fortunately cleared as neither liquid nor gel.

Wow, clotted cream rice pudding sounds amazing. However, I think you got lucky not having it declared a gel.

Theres no liquid in Nespresso though... unless you mean Tassimo ones of which some are liquid capsules? Dont see why Nespresso would need to be in a clear bag. ^

Most commercial stuff has no smell (eg Semtex)

I actually had no idea what was inside, but have been asked to pack some with me on my next trip (HBO).

Thanks for confirming they wont need to go into a plastic bag!

In Tassimo the coffee (e.g. americano) discs contain ground coffee. . The creamer is a liquid.

Not sure about the more specialist flavours though.

This sounds like the immersion water coil I carry if I suspect that my hotel room won't have a kettle or coffee maker.

Customs in some countries will want you to report the coffee as an ag/food product.

I've never heard of a TSA limit on (dry/solid) coffee.
