I do crew: When harry met meghan

A crew consisting of people named Harry, Megan and Meghan. And any passengers with those names get free First lounge access.

British Airways - I DO CREW: WHEN HARRY MET MEGHAN

The bad use of apostrophes in the first few paragraphs hurts my eyes.

Ugh... you're right - how can someone who doesn't understand the use of apostrophes and plurals be allowed near a "publish" button???

And the television programme, At Her Majesties Service: Ep 1 Windsor. Has BA fired all of its copy editors?

The only "incorrect" use of apostrophes I can see is the plurals - Harry's and Meghan's - and they wouldn't be the first people to use apostrophes for possessive plurals. There are other cases where you might use apostrophes for plurals too, such as 1990's or Mind your P's and Q's or Both of them had Ph.D.'s.

So the author might not be quite as illiterate as you're all making out

BA are being generous too: "Extra champagne has also been loaded on to the Toronto celebration flight and the ‘Royal Crew’ will give every customer on board a personal bottle of Castelnau Blanc du Blanc to enjoy alongside their individual celebratory wedding cake."

I agree it's only the plurals of the names that are a problem. These are not possessive plurals and they are just wrong. Elsewhere the possessives are used correctly - e.g. in the snip below, the use of both apostrophes is correct - and more complex than the logic used in pluralising names.

"Carolina Martinoli, British Airways’ Director of Brand and Customer Experience, said: “We are so thrilled for Prince Harry and Meghan so wanted to bring some added sparkle and make our customers’ journeys fit for a Prince or Princess to celebrate this incredibly special day.”

Which is why I specified the problem was in the first few paragraphs.

Lounge access to those named like the Royal couple? In very poor taste.

It would have been preferable to give the entire Toronto flight lounge access, while there is really little sense in giving ALL passengers who happen to have a specific name lounge access.

Well, the criticism relating to incorrect use of apostrophes (it’s just so very unpleasant on the eye) is certainly justified. But, yes, the overall tone of some posts was perhaps a tad harsh, as you say.

My own personal concern stems much more from BA’s use of the word “excellence” in the closing paragraph of the release ; although in fairness, that’s a matter of accuracy and reality, rather than one of grammar.

Why is it in poor taste?

Talking of which, can you spot anything wrong with your thread title?
