SJC Flights Cancelled in June?

Hi All,

Apologies if this has been mentioned before.

Was looking to book to SJC in June and notice there is no service from the 9th - 30th of June. I assume due to 787 maintenance?

How far in advance do BA plan cancellation for the Trent 1000 issue? We are booked on the 27/6, it’s still showing as normal in MMB, but our flight on 27th doesn’t show up on BA.com anymore.

CIHY any chance you know if the 280/281 LHR-LAX services will continue to be cancelled into July?

Does anyone know what the position is with EU621 compensation regarding these cancellations? I had a LHR to LAX cancelled at T-3 before departure.

BA rejected the claim, stating it was a ‘non-payable operational issue’?

Normally maintenance issues are not considered to be "exceptional" occurrences. In this instance the RR powered 787 issue probably does come under the exceptional clause, I don't think it is predictable that a sizeable portion of the world-wide fleet of 787s are currently unflyable. This is not limited to BA, of course. VS have had to being retired aircraft back from the desert, BA have delayed some retirements and are, reportedly, leasing in a trio of QR A330s. It all seems fairly exceptional to me, albeit inconvenient for those directly affected.

I think BA will reject any EC216 claims. That decision could be challenged, of course.

I'm not a pro but see no reason why their aircraft issue wouldn't be covered. But for the experts to help, I recommend posting in the EC261 thread:
The 2018 BA compensation thread: Your guide to Regulation EC261/2004
