Heathrow T5 any short cut to South lounge

Hi
Last month flew from T5, after fast track security at far end of building near BA Club check in we went left, then downstairs and then right and them upstairs again. It felt like we walked a long way and back on ourselves. Is there a shortcut or a lift we can take please by maybe turning right after security? Thanks

There is a short cut but it involves getting gold/OW Emerald status or flying first class.

Seriously, you did it right.

That is the shortest route unless you are BA Gold/OWE and can use The First Wing, or flying in First and then you can use the door to the CCR on your right as you exit fast track.

Ok many thanks just wanted to check before our next flight as the layout does seem a bit convoluted.

It's not just convoluted: I am told it's a deliberate design decision to make sure you walk past all the shops, to encourage you to buy high-margin duty-free goods.

The North lounge is a lot easier to access if you're tight on time (but consequently feels a lot busier).

Indeed. Like train stations are now 'destinations' for shopping (See St Pancras, London Bridge). The actual facilitating of passenger travel is a secondary design consideration.

"St Pancras International is more than just a mainline railway station linking London with Europe: It’s an extraordinary retail, social and cultural destination loved by commuters and visitors alike."

In much the same vein, BA could be described as a pension fund that flies a few aircraft on the side.

Accept and move on. However I have to say I am increasingly enjoying the experience of checking in and doing security in the F wing. So smooth.
Although this week by flight was out of B gates anyway so ended up walking straight through the lounge, out the other side and down to the transit tunnel without stopping. At 05:20 I don't really care whether my comfy chair is a J lounge one or an F. But gate proximity is worth it. I think that B gates lounge is ok actually.

Is it just me, or does anyone else purposely avoid spending any money at airports where you are forced to route through shops?

Yes, in almost all cases.

I do, however, ensure I try any free alcoholic samples on offer - before invariably deciding they wouldn’t meet my HBO requirements for the return journey that I’d somehow initially overlooked having been taken in by this retailing extravaganza .

Generally, yes, but if there's samples of booze on offer I might do a couple of circuits (whatever time of day!)
