Who needs Reward Flight Saver?

Absolutely fantastic prices to Europe from Scotland... Plus tier points and Avios!

Here's just one example...

But don’t forget you are spending 10k avios to get £60 off the price.

Although still not a bad price for 4 flights even in Y.

Also not bad when you earn 2690 Avios for the trip meaning that it really only costs about 7500 avios.

is this £60 + 10,000 avios ?

Indeed. But you still earn back Avios and TPs. RFS for a four sector flight wouldn't be much less than 10K...

It's certainly a great fare, though not so unusual for domestics to Europe.

This is a widely available GLA-BIO fare available throughout (e.g.) November for £124.64. A further £60 has been cut from this by opting to give up 10,000 Avios for this, making the Avios worth 0.6p each, and you can get stuff from the Buy on Board menu at a better rate than that. In my eyes that turns the real cost to at least £164 (based on 1 penny per Avios), more if your Avios are spent carefully. I certainly agree that on cheap O fares it makes sense to have a cash fare rather than use an RFS - which would be £58 and 16k Avios as a pure redemption, but with a more flexible ticket.

A better deal is to pay an extra £20 (£144 for the revenue ticket) to go to V class (which in this case is cheaper than N), then UuA to Club Europe. You will get a higher Avios and TP return, and travel in Club for 8k Avios and £13 for the UuA, the Avios being worth about 4p each instead of 0.6p. So total cash of £157, 8k Avios, 4 CE flights and the Cathay lounge to boot. If staying a Saturday night there may be better options.

I was suprised to see SOF-LHR at 23.78 euro in October/November and with part pay with avios, it comes to only 12.27 euro, albeit one way and in Y. Not bad for a short Haul plus route and as a gold member you earn more avios than you spend on the part pay.

That assumes you value the CE 'premium' at about £333 each way, which many on here would seriously doubt - especially if Gold like OP and especially for short sectors like GLA and BIO..

I found BIO to be very cheap. Glass of white wine €1.50 and some pintxos for €2 each.
