Denied travel on BA due to shortened name

If it involves USA tickets and participating airlines, name on the ticket needs to match name in the government database for the best odds of TSA Pre-check populating correctly, and the Pre application is full middle name if you have one.

If your name is "David George William Smith", booking the ticket under "David Smith" is perfectly fine. The APIS and ESTA (or similar electronic authorisations / visa) will have to match the exact name in your passport.
