In April 2018 BA announced that they had started a programme to refurbish the cabins on the Mid-J 747-400 fleet. In January 2020, this programme was completed.
As part of the refurbishment all of the aircraft involved have undergone a basic refresh which consisted of:
* Full aircraft deep clean
* Seats in WT/WTP refurbished with new seat foams and cushions as on Super Hi-J aircraft
9 of the aircraft received an ENHANCED refurbishment to bring the cabin up to the same standard as the Super Hi-J 747-400 fleet. This consisted of what is listed above plus:
* New carpets fitted throughout
* All curtains replaced
* New Panasonic IFE fitted in all classes
Note: It was initially believed that the enhanced refurbishment included LED mood lighting throughout, but this is not the case. All retained standard lighting. There were no plans to install WiFi to any Mid-J configured 747-400 aircraft.
Note: Aircraft that have undergone an ENHANCED refurbishment are shown in red
Aircraft are listed below in the order that they were refurbished and show return to service date, along with retirement date where applicable.

As a semi-regular on a Mid-J route (PHX), it's appreciated. I'd actually been booking Mid-J avoidance itineraries and connecting via A380 or 86J routes.

FWIW:-
- G-CIVZ positioned to LHR on 31 May, re-entered service on 1 June by operating BA117 to JFK.
- G-BYGG positioned to CWL on 31 May - 86J aircraft, so again not part of the mid-J refresh.
- G-CIVV is still at CWL, with no future planned flights listed on FR24.
- G-CIVD is listed to operate BA209 to MIA on 1 June and 2 June.

I confess to not being a follower of this subject, but we’ve recent grabbed a decent fare using a 747 LHR-PHX for next February. I fully expect to be using my Kindle (as would the OH) but at least we’re in our favourite seats (63a/b) for the long and tedious flog of a TATL/TCon.
What might we expect? Tired aircraft, obviously, probably well-worn interior. Just PLEASE don’t substitute a 777 at the last minute!!

I do not think a 777 has served PHX for years so I think it is highly likely to be a 747.

I seem to be in the minority but, apart from the better entertainment system, I prefer the unrefurbished 747s and 777s. I fly DFW to LHR in WTP and the seats in the refurbished 777s are so hard. I prefer the old squishy ones and the leg rest.

Too early to say, only a couple have had refresh so the chances aren't great. You will get the old IFE for sure as the first IFE upgrade is scheduled for September, details in the wiki.

Not sure how fast this refresh will progress as a understand there's quite a few 777's due in shortly. STBA just arrived for a D check which will occupy a bay for about a month.

LHR - JFK 17th June 115
Hi,
So I can find the aircraft reg for previous flights as of today backwards to see what config they'll be but is there any way to find out what 115 will be this coming Sunday? Or the rotation for this week/end on the NYLON route. It's seems the 86J's are dominating the route with the rare 52J and a 777 thrown in here and there in the last few weeks.
Thanks.
