Mid-J 747 Refurbishments
In April 2018 BA announced that they had started a programme to refurbish the cabins on the Mid-J 747-400 fleet. In January 2020, this programme was completed.

As part of the refurbishment all of the aircraft involved have undergone a basic refresh which consisted of:

* Full aircraft deep clean
* Seats in WT/WTP refurbished with new seat foams and cushions as on Super Hi-J aircraft

9 of the aircraft received an ENHANCED refurbishment to bring the cabin up to the same standard as the Super Hi-J 747-400 fleet. This consisted of what is listed above plus:

* New carpets fitted throughout
* All curtains replaced
* New Panasonic IFE fitted in all classes

Note: It was initially believed that the enhanced refurbishment included LED mood lighting throughout, but this is not the case. All retained standard lighting. There were no plans to install WiFi to any Mid-J configured 747-400 aircraft.
Refurbishment Progress
Note: Aircraft that have undergone an ENHANCED refurbishment are shown in red

Yes, G-CIVO is the first aircraft with the new IFE. As far as I can see, she has not yet returned to service so we have no direct reports about the system, but the information that the new IFE has been fitted comes from a reliable source.

I would be surprised if this aircraft were to do anything other than the normal, which is to be available to fly any 52J route. Whether you get a refreshed aircraft in April is likely to be a matter of chance.

CIVI is a Super Hi J and so has already undergone the refresh including new IFE.

I can confirm it's been refurbished, including new curtains; don't know about the mood lighting, though. It was meant to fly to SEA today after a weight measurement, but didn't; I think it'll be flying on Sunday for Dreamflight. The next plane to be refurbished, G-CIVT, should be flying out to CWL shortly.

This is all my opinion and my understanding of the plans, not British Airway's.

I will add my greetings and welcome to you Brigadier Big Moustache, I hope we will see plenty more more of you here, welcome to the Flyertalk and to the BA Board.

t's a good route to have decent IFE on it, but you best leave it until about March to get a better idea what is happening, equipment changes are very common (it's a rare day when we don't get at least one complaint on here about this) and so a lot could happen between now and departure.

Thanks MFCC and 13900.

I have updated the wiki to separate out the two different types of refurbishment.

G-CIVO seems confirmed on tomorrow's BA9117 LHR-MCO (Dreamflight). I find it quite nice to see that the first ones to enjoy it will be the young Dreamfliers!

That's very kind, but what might there be to report on?

Please don't get me wrong. If there is anything unusual, then we'd all love to hear it. But G-CIVP is a mid-J that hasn't yet had the cabin refresh, so would seem to be likely to offer the same experience that we have all known and loved for years.
