Was feeling fairly happy on avoiding all this to then find that we are on cyclone watch for this weekend. Think I would rather have the snow.

For non-flying reasons, I've been watching the weather forecasts in order to plan the weekend.

Although the forecasts have been very volatile, one theme that seems to have been fairly consistent is that if there is snow in the London area, it's likely to be overnight on Saturday/Sunday night rather than during the day on Sunday. Hopefully that will mean that once it's been cleared, the rest of the day will run smoothly.

So when can we expect a travel waiver to be issued? Flying to RAK today, already delayed by three hours and returning on Sunday. At this stage I'd rather not go considering what probably is going to happen on Sunday...

A travel wavier would be good at this point as don't fancy heading to GIB tomorrow given the forecast for strong winds there and likelihood of ending up in AGP! Of course in the greater scheme of things I'd rather nothing happened with the snow so those who do want to travel can do so.

As the current prediction seems to be for light snow, possibly 1-3cm in low lying areas, it's difficult to see why a widespread travel waiver would be issued at this point. It really is a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation BA finds itself in at the moment.

A travel waiver is not the same as pro-active cancellations... They could issue the waiver to alliviate the number of passengers affected if the risk materialises...

I would hope that the advance warning will allow BA to make sure that Heathrow have the the de-icing machines ready-to-go.

Just to clarify, they are BA's de-icing trucks. All airlines at LHR are responsible for de-icing their own aircraft, and BA do their own.

HAL are responsible for clearing taxiways and runways, and they seemed to do a decent job the other week, mostly because they invested a lot in new equipment after the 2010 winter.

I've an LCY-ORY flight on Sunday evening. Trying to plan for contingencies (like booking a Eurostar on flexible terms perhaps).

Can anyone say how well/badly LCY did in snows at the end of February? They seem likely to get some snow at some point over the weekend.

Keeping a weather eye on this situation. Having just been outside in Newcastle/Tyneside for the last few hours, I can vouch for the fact it has deteriorated - it’s now an ice cold rain, despite being 4°C...

Correct, but if it's not as bad or hits later, that might store up even more issues further down the line in terms of capacity planning. I can understand BA's reticence in allowing the position to develop further before allowing that.

Looks like there is now a wavier in place for anyone travelling this weekend who would like to push back their travel a few days (new travel dates up to 21 March):
