Manila JV BA codeshare will work really well for me if BAnnnn flight number DOH-MNL as then MNL-DOH-LHR rtn gets me 4x BA sectors w/o needing to manufacture an extra return domestic or Amsterdam BA flight or worse 4x BA flights if a value MH J class booked as in last 18months (plus I also like to fly MNL(BKK)-xxx-AMS on QR/KLM/CX/SQ) entirely bypassing UK depending on fares and flight timings)

Codeshares are generally seen as a "useful adjunct" for airlines - a small amount of not terribly profitable business for relatively little work. They come into their own if it gets business from rival airlines, and in the case of CGK and MNL in particular the existing HKG codeshares aren't great due to the relatively high cost of the Cathay sector. So for LON-MNL this may give BA some new business options. However codeshares generally wouldn't stop an airline operating direct, it takes very little effort to end a codeshare.

For fares, we probably need to wait 3 to 6 months or so to see the impact, if the Vueling codeshares are anything to go by. When codeshare fares first come out they can be at atypical levels (in either direction). But it will be interesting to watch this since it's a very competitive market.

Thanks for the above , to be honest i have seen today that QR are offering "Decent by Jakarta standard" fares on the new route to LGW around £1800 return.

Jakarta has always been SQ country, with 10-11 flights per day , BA have always been hit and miss with fares , so possibly could be interesting few months

Maputo is a handy one, one of the few African destinations that EK doesn't currently operate to.

A couple of business returns on codeshares gets most of the way to silver status and delivers 4 qualifying flights.

Yes, these new routes are also interesting for my line of work - Asian cities previously unserved by BA (and in the case of CGK, HAN, and HKT, all underserved by OW). Given PE company travel policy, and lack of PE on QR metal, this would at least give me a way to fly WT+ for half the way (and earn PE-level Avios/TPs for the other half in QR Y).

Last time I flew CX PE I found it extremely meh, and actually preferred WT+ on a BA 787.
