That’s another great way to use a 2-4-1, however would much rather go via JNB.

South Africa also has high unemployment so probably not so much people can afford airtravel or can consider flying leisure to other African countries.
When BA would fly LHR-DUR the thing could look a whole lot different...could also be a seasonal service for a few month a year/special events etc.

I have always wondered why two A380s are needed, because the planes are not that full. I'm assuming cargo.

Then if the flight is not until next month how do you know that the flights will be "not that full" as you put it?

Interestingly I was just looking at next Tuesday's JNB-LHRs for someone, looks pretty health to me:

With SAA soon to reduce down to one JNB rotation from LHR pulling 222 Daily seats (81,030 pa) from the available non stop capacity, I suspect any future DUR service would be non stop with 787 rather than a tag on to JNB as before.
Perhaps BA have leased SAA’s vacant slot. This would free up seats to JNB to mop up some of the lost capacity.

Still can't see too much LHR DUR traffic is BA can't make LHR Chengdu work.

And this follows them having previously pulled out of the LHR-CPT market.

They have, for 5 years, though it doesn't have to be used to JNB, or even South Africa.

Maybe yesterday's events might change things but I imagine the margins on the routes to SA may be affected by South Africa's descent to junk status.

Also years ago JNB was a key hub for getting around Africa but really that isn't the case any more, most places (including Durban) are easily accessible via other hubs.

Direct flights to Durban? I can't see it personally. Relatively little business traffic and EK are well entrenched.

Past experience, I suppose. I am usually in Club or F. I almost never see the rear cabins, except when being walked to the front door when the plane lands in Joburg. I'm thinking of the 747.

I hear that a non stop B787 London - Durban is currently being considered.

Is SAA really that bad? I've done the shorthaul business 2-3 config on the A319, which I think is kind of funny for a business class ( albeit shortfall(haul) product). I'm usually sitting in the aisle, and its always interesting to see the looks on people who clearly paid for a business seat to see that they got the middle seat. Never done the longhaul

Seems that BA is eating SAA's lunch with the double daily A380s to Joburg, and both flights leave roughly within 2-3 hours of each other

A few years back comair we’re supposed to be getting hold of a 767 to operate DUR-LGW but that all went very quiet.
