Super Hi-J 744 Routes?

Where does BA regularly fly the super hi-J 747s? I’m due to fly one from Dubai back to London and I wansnt expecting one on that route. So that got me thinking where do these aircraft normally get deployed?

i did a quick search and could find an existing thread, but if there is one please point me in the right direction and kill this one.

There's a bias to keeping them on the JFK service, though that's not an overwhelming bias, and there are some routes which only get the Super J by accident, presumably there's nothing else left in the shed at the relevant time. Lagos, Kuwait, DFW, SFO and San Diego seem to do well on them,. But apart from that I don't think there is a formalised system of routes that you can rely on. The Jet Tracker on thebasource gives some clues

I've just done a sweep of the Jet Tracker. During the months of Jan/Feb 2018, the Super High J Boeing 747s operated on the following routes:

Boston BOS
BA239/238

Dallas Fort Worth DFW
BA193/192

Dubai DXB
BA107/106

DC IAD
BA217/216

New York JFK
BA113/114, BA115/176, BA117/174, BA175/116, BA179/182

Kuwait KWI
BA157/156

Los Angeles LAX
BA283/282

Lagos LOS
BA75/74

Chicago ORD
BA294/295

Philadelphia PHL
BA67/66

Riyadh RUH
BA263/262

San Diego SAN
BA273/272

San Francisco SFO
BA285/284

Not BA172 too?

Also a good rule of thumb for where not to find it is T3. Much to the chagrin of our many Vegas fans here.

Half the fleet are super hi J 747s, so half the destinations get them. But they do show up all over the place. As Ldnn1 noted, they rarely go from T3. Interestingly, I was told by a 747 captain that Lagos often gets the super hi J as it has a larger potable water tank than than the mid J, and they can't upload water in LOS, so need to fill it as much as possible in LHR. The loads rarely require the J seats though.

Thanks for the info everyone, especially the flight list Prospero very interesting.

Having flown to DXB on a 747 a couple of times and they have each been the version with WT+ ahead of CW on the main deck I was surprised to see the seat map for the super J. But given the number across the fleet I suppose I shouldn't be surprised to see them outside of JFK. Either way I'm certainly happy to have the Panasonic IFE rather than the 3 square inch screens on the older 747 cabins.

Also what is this Jet Tracker magic you're referring to?

British Airways Jet Tracker

If you select a month and a BA aircraft, this page will tell you where it has been.

Thanks, I didn't know this existed.

Do these high J 747s still have the former WT+ seats that feature full leg rests?

Some FTers have reported they do but in my experience based on a small sample of flights, none of the seats I have sat in have leg rests. Foot bars, yes, but leg rests, no.

Hi,

Does anyone know the JFK flight numbers with Super Hi J for May please?

Thanks

Cw novice Apr 12, 2018 6:29 am

Interestingly I am on the 174 back from JFK on a Saturday in September and this is showing as a 52J 747 when reserving my seat. Bagged 64k but hoping for the Super HI J. Out of interest if there is an equipment change to Super Hi J will I have to reserve my seat again or will it be carried over.

Ok so I'm replying to myself here, I realise that but...

I actually would like to know if 115 on the 17th June will be a Hi-J, it's currently the old 52J layout. Any luck that this might change to the 86J layout, and/or push my luck further, have WiFi too? :D

Thanks,
