London to Sydney

Need flights for 4-12th May, and BA F with a sector in CX J is £5,200, with sale on. I’m sure it can get cheaper than that but all other OW carriers are currently £7,200 ish in F.

Should i I go for it or hold out?

TG F all the way is £4.5k - how much are those Avios / TPs really worth to you?

If you can start your trip in DUB, you can fly DUB-DXB-SYD in EK F (on QF codes) for £5,287 return on those dates. You would get full TP + Avios earn on these flights due to the QF code.

Scary numbers for OAPs. J is perfectly acceptable, though! Gawd, it’s a long journey ... as bad as HNL

Useful pointers, though, Thanks!

You can do DUB-DXB-SIN-SYD return on EK/QF for a shedload of TPs, if that's important to you
Same price as the DUB-SYD per above.

I fly out (at least once) every year to either SYD or MEL, mainly to visit family.

Have used a mix of Cathay, Malaysian, Emirates in the past, but was attracted by an ex-OSL deal with QR in their January ‘sale’ (limited as it was). It’s in J throughout, to Brisbane, and came in at 16518 NOK - or approx £1500 incl all taxes.

Nets me 840 TP’s. and around 27K Avios. But most important of all, I do like QR food and service.

Another vote for QR. Fly J and instead splurge on hotels and restaurants in SYD.

Hardly ‘new’, it opened 13+ months ago. The lounge is not dissimilar to QR’s excellent LHR T4 lounge - but not quite as good.

If it was my money I would stick with J on QR’s A380 (or A350 / 787). F is good but, based on my experience, not worth the extra expenditure.

Oh dear - how did yet another FT BAEC thread turn into to a discussion about QR?

How is it 840TP's - isn't it 140+160+160+140=600 if in J?

There were routings recently which included a stop in PER, then an onwards flight to BNE on QF, which has a fantastic A330 J product.

OSL-DOH-PER-BNE is 140+140+140 each way.

I was mooning over something similar, wishing I could commit to something at the end of the year: the Scandinavia-BNE fare can be split for a stopover in PER [at least, couldn't find others] meaning 6x140TPs if you did it both ways. Couldn't find the same for SYD, and MEL is under 2k miles from PER [and also didn't seem to work]. Domestic can be done on QF A330 for best product.

ETA: it is stopover, too - up to 72hrs I think? Maybe 96.
