American Express Platinum TP Challenge

I have an Amex Platinum offer for 'Spend £600 or more, get £200 back'. It expires on 28/02 (that's when I need to spend the money, not actually travel). Seems to be valid for anything that can be prepaid on Amex travel. I was wondering if this can be used to rack up a useful number of TPs without going too far over the £600 limit? I'm South England based, not particularly close to LHR, or LGW, or BHX... STN and LCY are better. Alternatively I can take +1 and so would be looking at a £300 mini-break.

Hotel points in abundance so I'm not looking to add accommodation unless heading somewhere with zero availability (eg Edinburgh in August).

How many TPs would you find useful?

Similar thoughts here - can I target 260 TPs for £600 bookable via Amex and get the £200? I'm in Newcastle and London on a weekly basis, 240 should be easy enough I guess, even a day trip to an 80 TP destination.

In the sale there have been flights available for Catania for little more than £200 return (80TP), and Barcelona/Bordeaux in the region of £160 (40TP). The sale fares appear to have a two night minimum stay requirements, but punching in some random dates for a CTA-LGW round trip turns up fares in the same price range as LGW-CTA, so you may be able to nest bookings to do two B2B trips.

I would consider travelling somewhere you would like to go for the weekend, for me spending £400 on travel to no-where seams a waste, but each to their own.

Slightly off topic but just a note if you're a few pounds short of triggering the offer (eg flights are £550). You can add an experience to the booking (even if you won't use it) to bring you up to £600

If I go to CTA iíll happily stay a few days! At that price I can nest it and do two weekends! I wonder how many days home working I can back-to-back...

240 TPs = 604 (404 with discount assuming AMEX can get a similar price)

Is this offer targetted? Can it be spent on BA flights? Just considering a TP run OTP to PHX and that 200 quid really could really swing it...

It is targeted. And there are two offers out there, £50 back for £200 and £200 back for £600.

Can't help, but thanks for the heads up! I've just checked and I've got the £200 offer also. Brings my MAN-DXB flight down to £1100

To clarify on your TP values, those are one-way, so it's 160TP return for CTA, and 80TP return for BCN, BOD, NCE & LUX (which are all cheap at the mo)

I have the £50 offer on my Gold card - is it down to the card, or spending patterns? If the card, I didn't realise offers differed between the two... could be the final convincing factor to get the Platinum.

The offers tend to be targeted, particularly the higher value ones. Anecdotally, the Gold/Plat tend to have better or more offers than my BA branded card . I've had offers for Trailfinders and Neislon holidays, which are companies I use fairly regularly - sometimes a big spend seems to trigger an offer. The AMEX travel offers over the summer were of great use and were on both the supplementary and the main card! Since I've used them I haven't been targeted for another AMEX travel offer.

This is just all anecdotal.

I make that 320 TP rather than 240?

LGW-AMS-LGW-CTA-LGW-AMS-LGW = 40+40+80+80+40+40 = 320
