Lhr - Sjc tomorrow

In PE tomorrow with my youngest son ( 22yrs) seems the whole PE cabin has been filled today ( expert flyer/ BA) . I booked it some time back , now seems PE is rammed as of today ? Iím Gold and could see the the usual TS / blocking going on, now nothing.
appears plenty open in Club, just wondering how it works ( in your experience) with golds and upgrades from WT+ to club and specific if the gold has a family member in tow with lower status?
cheers
T

The BA279 LHR-SJC is showing these numbers at the moment:

F3 A2 J5 C0 D0 R0 I0 W3 E0 T0 Y2 B0H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 G0

Which looks as though Y and W are probably oversold and possibly J too (or close to it). There does appear to be some space in F. I would expect it to go out full with a small number of roll forward upgrades from Y-W-C-F. With any luck you and your son will get swept forward. Please report back and let us know what happens...

Depends how many they need to move. Being Gold obviously counts in your favour, but being in a larger group counts against when they prefer to move in solos. FLY handles most of it anyway.

You might want to take a look at this thread, which covers much the same ground (though without the travelling companion).

No Seat Available?

I'm not suggesting that you could/should have searched for it, by the way.

That poster got a very happy outcome - let's hope for the same for you.

The system picks who to upgrade automatically, without human intervention?

BA use a system called DUT (Discretionary Upgrade Tool). How it works exactly I don't know, and I don't think most here do, but it does apparently take into account fare paid, status, solo traveller, no special meal ordered. If you google Discretionary Upgrade Tool you'll see a few articles listed.

As standard practice, yes.
