Please use this thread to document experiences of the new Group Boarding process in airports. I think it's well known how the previous boarding system works, so just the new process please, so that other travellers can gauge its effectiveness.

For discussion, conjecture and speculation about the scheme, please use this thread: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...iscussion.html

I'm on the BA2155 LGW:BGI this morning. Despite superficial attempts to manage boarding there were still some group 5 pax in the group 1 group Not impressed.

LHR - KEF

My first flight under the new system going from LHR to KEF. There was a slight delay but were told twice and firmly to sit down and wait and most did. A few wandered into Group 4/5 lane a bit later.

Interestingly, there was an announcement that there would be pre-boarding for families with infants under 2 and anyone else needing assistance and to come forward to see a member of staff. After that there was an opportunity for passengers to check bags in and get preboarding. Perhaps ten took that up.

Old habits die hard and true to form a few people were now in Line 1 and Iím ashamed to say that I joined them about 30 seconds before we were called. No one was turned away (I was about 7th) but as they mostly seemed to be sitting down in the CE seats or the overwing exits (Golds I assume) they seemed to be all legit !

There were two in the Group 2/3 Lane

Iím flying into LCY on the return flight so will be interesting to see how the boarding is done for an Embraer.

INV - LHR 01 MARCH 2019

Airport packed, there's an easyJet, KLM and BA departure within a short time.

Group Boarding announced (lesser able and pax with children boarded first) and then groups called, boarding group enforced.

KEF - LCY

As my Boarding Card said Boarding for the 17:05 was at 16:35, I left the lounge to get through immigration and be at the gate just before then. But when I got there Boarding was well underway and Groups 4 and 5 had nearly all gone through. There was a separate sign for Groups 1,2 and 3. We were all boarded by 16:40 and left 15 minutes early.

LHR-DEL on BA143 on 20/02 - by the time I arrived group 1 was already called and group 2 was just being announced.
DEL-LHR on BA256 04/03 Two lanes - group 1-3 and 4-5 however group 1 was being called out first and I boarded the plane.

Overall appeared very organised

If it was a single lane, then yes, you're jumping the queue by pushing in front of group 2s. If there's a separate lane for group 1 though, then go down there at your leisure

FAO - LGW last night, boarding group 1 was enforced, then groups 1-4 all announced at once and a big scrum to get on the plane. Not helped by the fact they'd let someone on the plane who hadn't been through security (god knows how that happened), who had to be escorted off the plane for further questioning...!

If that happens then, surely, the entire aircraft has to be searched?

Boarded before group 0

Group 1 on our BPs, of course, And at the entrance to the holding pen are 3 desk Agents checking documentation - one for the ĎPriority Gangí. So far so good. However, we then enter this VERY large holding area with no signage whatsoever. We position at the far end (near the door to the airbridge) and wait.

The speakers at this end of the pen arenít working properly, and cut out after the first words from the Agents back there where we entered. But we know the script!

Eventually one Agent comes to the boarding end of the holding area, opens the door to the airbridge and ushers through the small handful of assistance pax. She then heads back to the entry area, leaving the door open and, of course, unattended. After a couple of minutes, a handful of pax decided this must be their opportunity to start boarding, so they head off down the airbridge. Cue everyone (J, Y, W, Gold, Silbver, Bronze, Blue and Nil) just self-boarding en masse.*

No announcements, no signage, no control, no priorities ... just simple chaos. Disgraceful, IMO.

* We anticipated the scenario, and self-boarded in the first dozen or two
another datapoint on BA 2263 (lgw to kingston) on 23rd Feb was that boarding was not formally controlled at the door but was called out from the gate. Mrs firstlight (group 2) was told by the gate staff that she should board with me. Some other friends behind us (on a different PNR) were group 2 and were not given the same message. Boarding was called with group 1 being called BEFORE pre boarding (group 0) which as regulars on this flight will know consists of about 10 elderly passengers and 100 accompanying relatives. We counted our blessings, scuttled down the jetway and onto the plane. Our group 2 friends eventually joined us after being behind pre boarders.

Sunday night LGW to GLA 19:00. I arrived latish having ran with a backpack from my incoming VCE-LGW flight. Sits down for one minute and came an announcement. Would the last 7 passengers go to the door.Erm???? I don't know how many came after me but I'm group one. This was obviously a secret code for CE and GCH to get in line. Then, Hello.... and everyone stands up...... guy opens doors and runs (yes sprinted) away through the stampede.

LGW is an absolute shambles when it comes to boarding.

BA93 yesterday - Gate C56(ish - I think).

4 lanes I saw open. I was one of the last group 1s to board, didn't see any turnarounds ahead of me - but the guy behind me was group 3 and I saw it on his BP while waiting. He was asked to move away and go and rejoin the back of the group 3 queue - which he did.

Although the 'we're only boarding group 1 can everyone else please remain seated' call was wildly ignored.

you certainly would think so - tbf it was unclear what security she had bypassed (so maybe had been through scanners at security, but not gone through correct ticket scan at the gate etc), but she was hauled off for questioning pretty sharpish.

LGW - "groups 1 and 2" called at the same time from the holding pen (my guess is there were only a couple of group 2 silvers on board so they extended group 1); on the plus side, the priority lane into the holding pen was zero queue for me which was nice

Outstation - "groups 1, 2 and 3": so basically the exact same as the old style "all cards at once" - this was a bus gate though, so priority boarding was pretty meaningless

MLA (to LGW) - no priority signage nor any tensa barrier lanes. First call was for “groups 1 to 3” followed after a minute or so with “all remaining passengers”. Due to quite slow passport control queues quite a few group 1 people were thus left to queue with no priority lane
