Just checked at T-60h, and I have been allocated to 12D. Aisle seat with no-one reclining in my face.
I immediately pressed the Confirm button.
This seat was not available at T-7d, or T-72h.

Wish I knew how this darn system worked...it was purely random that I decided to log in and have a look.
All's well that ends well.

It could be as simple as someone cancelling a booking. A lot of that happens in the last few days before the flight.

When you select any seat on MMB and confirm it, you cannot change it later?

Hello everyone.. Just using this thread for a question. I知 Bronze and flying AMS-LHR-HKG next Thursday 25 Oct, dep 0915lt. I assumed I would be able to select a seat today free of charge. However, it still charges 100-120 euro for the flight LHR-HKG. There is only one windowseat available on the upper deck and I知 keen in getting this :)..

What am I doing wrong?

Not sure, since you mention upper deck this must be the BA31 operated by the A380? I notice that doesn't depart until 18.40 local.

I wonder if the system is applying exactly 7 days to each flight, and you'll have more luck trying after 6.40pm (UK time) today?

I recall some seats may be held back for Silver/Gold on the UD of the 747 but am not aware of such policy on the A380

IIRC the free seat pre-allocation does indeed kick in at exactly 7 days before the flight, to the second.

As mentioned upthread that only applies to OLCI. Free seat selection for Bronze is T-7 to the second.

I would go for 58K - side bins for storage and larger loos on the upper deck.

with connecting flights I think the free seat selection for Bronzes starts at exactly 7 days before each separate flight, not 7 days before the first flight for the whole lot.
