tried to replicate the itinerary but ran in to trouble with the first sector. Wouldn't give price or availability. Great find though. Will try to work other dates maybe.

Hi, just thinking about my LAX sleepover. Is the Eagle's Nest terminal for CRJs only - that's my return plane, so expecting to fly into the Eagle's Nest and will need to transition to terminal 4.

On the outbound, arrive into LAX around 01:00 and depart for PHX departure at 06:05

Outbound plane is listed as "Airbus" on the ticket - presumably an A32x - are those only from the main terminal 4 building. The Flagship Lounge opens earlier than the Eagle's Nest lounge, which means I have enough time for a shower in the Flagship Lounge before the flight, but that's pushing it if I have to transit to the Eagle's Nest.

The AA app gives you your aircraft type. I believe only regional jets operate out of the Eagles Nest so anything larger will be from T4 or T5 (these are easily connected airside). Think you will be ok to grab a shower on opening of the lounge in T4.

Yep - that gives me more info - A321. Flagship lounge opens at 04:45 - flight at 06:05, so yep - should be good for a shower and a coffee as soon as the lounge opens.

Cheers madfish

If you go to the Information counter near the Admirals Club/Flagship lounge entrance at around 12:30/1am they put out folding beds (they call them cots), airline blankets and pillows each night so you can bed down in a quiet place in the terminal until the lounge opens. They do great bacon in the LAX Flagship Lounge and the showers are better than LHR :-)

They do great bacon in the LAX Flagship Lounge and the showers are better than LHR :-)
Thatís really interesting to know.

I thought that was only when stranded due to delays, not when ticketed on a layover. Will certainly try my luck though - that's roughly when my Transco arrives.

I am yet to locate any "great" or even remotely edible bacon in the USA, but I will check the Flagship Lounge

zen100 - I had a sleepover at LAX late March en route to PHX with similar flight times to you. I saw a couple of people using "cots" though I didn't work out where they got them from. I thought it was a bit chilly. And it is bright. The lounge opened promptly but I was amused there was a queue outside that started about 15 mins before opening time. A couple of the coffee shops opened earlier than the lounge - I think I got a coffee at Dunkin Donuts about 4.15 as I was was feeling desperate. Breakfast was very nice though can't testify to the bacon. Walk to T5 is quite easy and reasonably well signposted. The sharp right at the bottom of the escalator is the critical bit. I can't remember how long it took - I think I was advised to allow 10 minutes from the lounge.

One more question guys, if my Transco arrives early, any idea if I can go into the Flagship lounge, which closes at 01:30 - given my PHX flight is the "same day".

That said, I'll probably prioritise bagging a cot rather than trying squeeze in 30-45 minutes of lounge time before they turf me out for the night.

I've only ever seen cots during widespread IRROPS, not as a norm. Once arriving into LAX there were lengthy delays for stands and the queue at the rebooking centre as I walked through the terminal must have had 100+ missed connection pax in it and the cots (I'd call them camp beds) were laid out everywhere, most occupied. On two other occasions where my flight was late (after midnight) but the airport was otherwise running well, there were no cots around.

I believe they are now available every night. As mentioned earlier, they are camp beds that fold away; they deliver them in quantity by the information counter - don't worry if the first batch is snapped up quickly, they will bring more out.

No point queuing for the opening of the lounge - the lounges are huge and 20 people in a queue mostly decant into the Admiral's Club section and disappear.

The terminal doesn't really close during the night - there are cleaning staff and plenty of people wandering around. The stores close but only so they can restock and they open again early. The piped music is on 24/7 too so together with the vacuuming you might consider ear plugs and an eye shade if you are a light sleeper

It's possible that your flight to PHX will leave from a satellite building in the morning, so leave plenty of time to get to the gate, it can be a long walk under the runway to the satellite

AA's lounges can all be used as arrivals lounges as well, so the answer is yes anytime you have an inbound boarding pass and want to use the lounge (as long as you're on a domestic connection and don't need to clear security to get to the lounge).

I don't suppose there is anything similar at SFO? I have a short overnight connection on the way out....

I'm not sure this info relates to LAX. American operate out of T4, T5 and the satellite terminal commonly referred to as Eagle's Nest. The occasional domestic flight also operates out of TBIT. Ignoring the latter, there is an underground tunnel connecting T4 and T5 which takes no more than 5 mins to walk through. There is no tunnel or long walk to the satellite terminal. Shuttle buses from T4 and T5 take you to the Eagle's Nest. If your flight is on American Eagle (CRJ or E170) it will leave from the Eagle's Nest. American mainline will leave from T4 or T5 (or rarely, TBIT).

You're absolutely right - the walkway under the runway connects to T5; the "Eagle's Nest" satellite requires a bus transfer. The first digit of a gate at LAX indicates the terminal, so Gate 49 operates from T4 and Gate 50 operates from T5. Don't be fooled into thinking Gate 49 and Gate 50 will be close together - it's a longish walk from the T4 lounge to gates in the 50s.
