My BA835 DUB-LHR tomorrow just got cancelled. Called GGL line to rebook to the earlier BA845 service because I'm connecting to HEL on BA798.

Agent told that flights are staring to get cancelled and it's quite likely either if not both of my current flights will get cancelled.

Thanks for the headsup. If LHR is affected, how likely is LCY to be affected, or is it more sheltered? Im flying from GLA which may also be.

And the newsflash from BA.com:

Storm Eleanor and high winds across the UK – Wednesday 3 January

Answer Id 6296 Updated 02/01/2018 02.58 PM (UK time)

Storm Eleanor and associated high winds will hit several parts of the UK and northern Europe on Wednesday 3 January and this will unfortunately affect some of our short-haul and domestic flights. For safety reasons, National Air Traffic Services (NATS) has to allow greater space between landing aircraft in strong winds and this has resulted in a reduced number of aircraft being allowed to land each hour at Heathrow.

This will mean a small reduction in our short-haul schedules at Heathrow and some delays to other flights. The high winds may also delay the offloading of baggage at some airports throughout the day. We are sorry for the difficulties caused by the poor weather and will do all we can to minimise the effect it has on our operations including using larger aircraft on some routes to help customers whose journeys have been affected by the storm.

Check the status of your flight

Please keep checking the very latest information about your flight before travelling to the airport.

> Check the status of your flight

You can also check your flight status on your mobile phone.

What to do if your flight has been cancelled

If your flight has been cancelled, please do not travel to the airport. We have a policy in place outlining the options available to you and how to make changes to your booking.

> Re-booking options if your flight has been cancelled

The warning is now valid from 1800 tonight. On AA's 1715 flight - the last one has been cancelled. The gate is quite chaotic, presumably with rebooked pax, but hoping to get out on time - but prepared for a bumpy ride!

I have now been made aware of further reductions to flights affecting other airports. No specifics yet, but my guess is that there will be further cancellations in North West Europe tomorrow. I would be almost certain LCY will have issues, probably AMS (which is particular prone to slot delays with this sort of wind), RTM, BRU, perhaps HAM and CPH later on.

If you are travelling tomorrow, you may consider going to the airport early. No guarantees but my suspicion is at the above airports you will be allowed to leave on earlier services.

Switzerland will be affected as well. Gusts up to 50kts expected in ZRH and heavy thunderstorms and snow pellets with winds up to 65 knots in BSL.

Yes, KLM has cancelled more than 100 flights tomorrow, AMS will certainly be impacted. Height of the storm exoected around lunchtime, expect delays and possible more cancellations.

Another piece of advice: there will be restrictions on the use of aircraft holds tomorrow, so tomorrow is a good day to try going Hand Baggage Only (HBO), or at least to structure any packing so that checked bags are not immediately vital on arrival. This is for both LGW and LHR. Mostly bags will go through fine, just the chance of a mishap is a bit higher.
