Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post #4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread, MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

My PRG-SFO run hasn’t started as well as it could.....

my flight to HEL is currently delayed, reducing my connection time to 30 minutes.

The next two sectors ( HEL-LHR & LHR-JFK) are both on BA flight numbers

Should I be worried/ thinking of other routings?

thanks

I'm not sure if it deserves a separate thread, so I'm going to ask here. Has anyone noticed a mismatch between the price offered by ITA Matrix and BA.com for exactly the same itinerary and the same fare codes? I've noticed it a few times, last one being when I booked my INV-ORD ticket two days ago. A difference of more or less £15.

That £15 sounds like it may be the non-NDC channel distribution charge.

It's one ticket so you're protected. And doing JFK on BA there are plenty of later flights once you arrive from HEL on BA/AY

HEL is the easiest airport in the world to connect through. As you arrive from a schengen airport (PRG) there won't be any security. Just pass through the passport control and you can be at your new gate in 5 minutes. The risk is that they automatically rebook your if the minimum connection time is missed.

Is it all booked on one booking? IF so, you should be fine. Even if they try to put you on the direct finnair flight to JFK, you could claim the ORC through BA (I'm 90% sure of this, but maybe someone else could confirm). There are plenty of HEL-LHR-JFK options throughout the day either way.

I often find matrix does not give the same price, but at least it gives a good indication. And at least the £15 is in your favour.

It's more TP than I need, so is there a better way to do this, ideally without a night-stop?

Thanks.

Yes, it’s one ticket!

Being new to TP runs, I was looking for reassurance.

Thank you, madfish & teledude

Do you have to depart from LON or can you do an ex-EU?

Perfect, I had not thought of that.

How do you see the booking class before you purchase? Will economy plus get me 10TP per sector?

If econ + is V class, then it's pricing up at £292.

Is there anything cost-effective out of BNA or ORD that my wife could do in late August/early September for about 300-350 points? The ex-EU J fares are about £1700, which is more than we'd want to spend. However, ex-OSL in WTP, UuA'd could be had for £665 (+c.£95 in YQ). Depending on the routing and positioning flights, she'd be between 150 and 315 short of Silver (probably closer to 300 than 150). I thought doing something in the US might be more cost-effective than in Europe since she'd be over there.

EDIT: Actually it could be more flexible, as the WTP fare seems to work with a lot of destinations, so as long as she ends up at BNA/SDF in the middle there might be a lot of options.

I'm looking at going to Singapore in July and on the Amsterdam deal have found AMS-LHR-BKK-SIN-LHR-AMS for around 1300 - my question is are there any ways to eke out more TPs on this fare without adding hugely to the price?

Any pointers greatly appreciated!

Each stop on this fare code incurs a €100/£100 supplement (can't remember if it's € or £) so extra TP's will come with extra cost. I would however do my best to avoid LHR-BKK direct on BA given it's serviced by the oldest B777's in a 3-cabin mode.

Try AMS-LHR-HKG-BKK-SIN-LHR-AMS for the max TP's and comfort for around £1,500
