Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post #4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under 300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread, MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under 500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for 520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

The UL fare has shot up in price - looks like it's gone.

So to clarify, the ban is still in place (as I'd assumed).

Makes the ex-CAI fare a little more complicated, but they're still decent deals and I may take advantage...although 40mins connecting through LAX is a tad tight.

As it is a department for transport rule then it is still very much in place.

It suggests that Cairo airport has still not got its act together sufficiently security wise - whereas other airports (like Hurghada for instance) have.

CAI airport can provide the security required for the ban to be dropped, it requires another explosives screening point at the gate entry, but BA has to pay for it, which they are not willing to do, so they continue with the electronics ban and the single explosives swab station required to operate the flight at all

The UL I fare to CGK, HKG and PVG from German airports has gone up considerably. Cheap fares still available from DME (QR to DOH then UL) but the DME - DOH leg is an A320 and timings not so good. Around 1100 for 840TP

I am currently in Dubai just got off UL from CGK via CMB , its not bad , service quite good , price is excellent , look for A330-300 rather than 200 though , the 200 isn't that comfy , but obviously better than CE

Slightly dumb question, but oddly I've never done this. I have a TP run next week booked via AA on a mixture of BA, Finnair and AA. Can I check in for the BA legs on the BA app, or do I do it via AA all the way through?

Operated legs via each app...so ba in ba etc just make sure you have the relevant PNR

AA question - do they opeate a lie flat service from LAX to MIA? AA.com shows A321 Sharklets, which I believe is lie flat? But EF shows an A32B.

also - the A321 birds they fly are the old US ones, right? For example on LAS-CLT. Terrible seats and no IFE?

AA has 3 types of A321.

The A321T which is 3-class with lie flats in F and J. Operated only on JFK-LAX/SFO. (also JFK-BOS mostly but thats not their primary job)

The A321 AA version. These have sharklets but are in a normal 2 class domestic config. Seatback AVOD IFE throughout. If the schedule says 32B and you are not on JFK-LAX/SFO then this is what you are getting.

The A321 US version. 2 class, no seatback IFE just streamed content via GoGo Video. Listed in the schedules as 321.

The only lie-flat on MIA-LAX is the B772 which comes and goes in different weeks. When it is there Its always on the 17:30 departure from MIA and the 08:40 or 09:40 departure from LAX though.

I find myself in a rather precarious position.

I sit at 2,260 TPs today, and my year end is July.

I'm guarenteed to keep GGL status through the Paternity Benefit, but regrettably the Baby team wont let me keep my CCR card (apparently they just dont allow it).

With a newborn baby at home, I can't be away that often, but need to garner another 2,740 TPs...because I like my CCR card!

I cant be away on a Friday night, so my best bet looks like doing 2 CAI runs, and then a short trip somewhere else.

What would the regulars recommend?

Shame the UL fare has gone!

How would the PHX fare work? Could you B2B to OTP on a Saturday and still catch a late night LHR/JFK? Or look to at the usual suspects as B2B on Friday morning and then do the TATL on the Saturday.

The PHX fare could work, but I'd need to leave OTP on the Friday, and do the TATL on a Saturday (which I've done in the past).

I can evidently fly out on 6th April at 0830 from OTP, but I cant find a way to force the TATL to 7th April.

Can anyone help?

M
