Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post #4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread, MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

Should be able to get (40+140+140+140+140+140+140+40=920 quite easily with something like OSL-LHR-JFK-LAX-HNL rtn. Works for all of OGG/HNL/LIH/KOA.

I'm trying to price this up for April, I can get outbound to route OSL-LHR-JFK-LAX-HNL to price under £1600 but if I make the inbound the same routing its £1800.

You can actually do better, for £1881 OLS-HEL-LHR-JFK-LAX-HNL return is possible which I make as (40+80+140+140+140 = 540 x 2 = 1080TP return). If I could book that routing under £1600 I'd pull the trigger right now.

Also I've been out of the loop for a while, is babybus available on these?

Nephoi, welcome to FT and the BA forum.

To get best advice, and you’ll find plenty of it here, it’s usually helpful to know how many TPs you’re looking for and at least a continent you’re aiming for - there’s little point in people making suggestions if the destination has high accommodation costs which blow your total budget clean away!

If you could put a little more flesh around this, I’m sure the collective knowledge will get you exactly what you need.

We've now booked this routing (over New Year and back 8 Jan). I too got hooked into the £1650 price but when I got a decent travel agenda there and back it rose to £1900 (still 880TPs). An amazing price and we're super happy (thanks to everyone on the board for all the tips including my first use of minconnect to get the overnight at PHL because I really didn't fancy the 1h 35 connection at PHL and arriving at LAX at midnight).

OSL LHR PHL (arr 7pm, overnight at the Marriot in the airport) PHL LAX KOA (arr 9pm) and back
KOA LAX JFK (overnight on the Transcon so glad of the flat beds) LHR and OSL.

Sadly I didn't think of the baby bus as an option, I now wish I'd looked harder (but I think I ended up only allowing LHR as my routing).

thanks for the warm welcome.

600 TP for BA gold would be very good. I've been to North America quite often in the last years. So (South East)Asia and/Or Australia would be awesome. Never been there.

Thank you

OK, I feel like I have been researching this for weeks... in fact it is only a week... but my wife has commented that she would like to see me more than a few minutes a day so I have finally pulled the trigger on a OTP-LHR-JFK-LAX-PHX run in April 19. 1159GBP

It should have yielded 800TP (80+140+140+40=400TP x 2 = 800TP) but I screwed up on the booking and somehow managed to book a AA flight that is operated by Sky West so I don't think I'll get the 40TP I should have got from LAX-PHX. Or will I? It isn't in MMB on BA yet so I'll check when all the itinerary is on the BA.com (it is all on AA.com but only some of it is on BA.com at the moment for some reason!).

However, even with that screw up, it is 760TP for 1159GBP --> 1.52GBP/TP - still pretty good.

Hi,

The AA flight ( even though operated by skywest) will earn the standard AA tier points and miles.

Hi folks, first post here, I hope I've got the format and intent right! Sharing a few options I came up with when trying to squeeze in some breaks that also get nice points. Flights to RU need a visa in advance, though.

10Nov £2.228/TP £401 180TPs LHR-DME return T ba.com araqnid from 2019-03-31 on B787s **RU visa**
10Nov £2.250/TP £540 240TPs AMS-LHR-LED return I,I ba.com araqnid **RU visa**
10Nov £2.581/TP £413 160TPs LHR-LED return I ba.com araqnid **RU visa**
10Nov £2.594/TP £519 200TPs LHR-HEL-TLL return D,Y ba.com ? already on wiki, just reformatting
10Nov £3.005/TP £1683 560TPs LHR-AMM-BKK return ILEEGB rj.com araqnid

^^ Nephoi that flight to BKK might be the sort of thing you're looking for? Not quite 600 (or quite £3/TP) but very close. Assuming RJ do in fact credit your TPs after the event.

The format is from the Wiki at the top, so the date is today (when I checked it). For the BKK trip, I was trying a booking in May 19, but I think it's the same price in March too.

Yesterday, BA cancelled the mid-day flight between LHR and INV next year in April.
Now my original flight plan got messed up.

Original Plan

Ticket 1, issued by BA (positioning flight AMS-LHR-INV)
LHR INV BA1468 10:15 11:55

Ticket 2, issued by AA (the real TP-run)
INV LHR BA1469 12:45 14:20
LHR YUL BA95 17:40 19:50
...
...

As you can see, INV is actually a B2B between the positioning flight and the first flight of the TP run.

New Flight Schedules

BA cancelled BA1468 and as a consequence BA1469 got cancelled too.
BA put me on BA1470 the day before the start of my run:

LHR INV BA1470 16:30 18:10

AA put me on BA1467 the day of my TP-run (now leaving a gap of 9 hours in LHR)

INV LHR BA1467 07:05 08:35
LHR YUL BA95 17:40 19:50
...
...

What are my options? What would you do?

Would BA let me change my ticket (at no cost) to e.g. MAN, BHX?
Would they rebook on FlyBe or Logainair? Other options?

What about AA: would they let me start my TP run in another city?

I'm open to your suggestions. Thanks.

Stan
Had similar, the only alternate airports they offered to me were ABZ. I was flying to INV for a short break up there to do the NC500, so it's stuffed things up a bit... but hey, get lemons ... make lemonade! I was also told LoganAir wasn't an option (mine was an Avios booking) - they could cancel mine and then do a new Avios booking including LoganAir but it would cost more, etc. Not very friendly!

GF or Matrix both work fine. Correct, booked into business class.

Let's say BA (or AA) agreed to reroute from ABZ/EDI/GLA.. would the passenger be liable for the APD given it's an involuntary change?
