Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post #4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread, MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

This avoids creating the itinerary via separate flights between each airport and advises ITA Matrix that you want to go from JER to PDX via LON JFK and LAX. If you put comma’s between those Cities it would ask the system to route you from JER to PDX with a stop in either LON, JFK or LAX.

There are much better teachers out there then myself on ITA Matrix, but hopefully that helps you in your search.

Much appreciated. I think I have much to learn!

I can force the JER-LGW on the Friday night, coming back to LHR on the Monday (although evening not morning) but the night stop is LAX not PDX (later flights on the Friday from JER are also available)

Many thanks for this highlandguy, any particular way you were able to get the Friday Jersey flights in without the price skyrocketing?

Thanks, Pilot37

Luck I suspect I'm not that great on ITAMatrix. This is the search I used if it helps.

Would just like to say thank you to everyone on this thread for highlighting the Portland fare.

I have been following and have planned a nice trip around the states this July and August.

Amazingly; it'll get me 520tp's and 17997 avios for £1083!

The plan is
1) JER-LGW (J - 40tp)
2) LCY-JFK (I - 140tp)
3) LGA-ORD (D - 40tp)
4) ORD-PDX (D - 40tp)
5) PDX-DFW (J - 40tp)
6) DFW-IAD (J - 40tp)
7) IAD - LHR (I - 140tp)
8) LGW - JER (J - 40tp)

This trip is over two weeks with an 8-day gap in Portland in the middle where I'll travel down to San Francisco and over to Salt Lake City.

Otherwise, it is a one night job in the other cities, arriving in the evening in all cases giving me the whole of the following day.

Will definitely post a TR as I do it!

Many thanks again!

Hi ScienceTeacher and welcome to the thread.

Glad to see the fare is of use and you have found an itinerary that works. You are allowed two transfers in the US so ideally as you are heading to the west coast try and get a >2000 mile flight in there are that would earn 140TPs. Generally try not to connect somewhere in the middle of the country (i.e. avoid ORD, DFW etc.).

For example in stead of doing LGA-ORD-PDX how about JFK-CLT-PDX which would earn 40+140 TPs instead of 40+40. There is a list of >2000 mile AA domestic routes in post 2 of this thread.

Looks fine to me and as it's protected it really doesn't matter if you miss it because of the M25

Edit....Boston obviously not as easy to rebook as JFK but my point still stands

Slightly OT (so apologies), but my parents have a cash+Avios ticket booked JER-LGW-LHR-SJC-PDX for August. They paid roughly £1,300 for PE seats and used 100,000 Avios to upgrade. Is there anyway that they can cancel the ticket (they've only paid the £300 deposit so far) and re-book onto the £1,081 J fare? I've checked and it works for the dates they want. Thanks in advance!

They will likely lose the deposit but depends on the fare rules...best to call BA

Great, thanks. Will speak to BA (assuming parents want to faff around with cancellation, rebooking, and losing the deposit).

You can bake in a layover into almost any part of this itinerary. I booked last night, with the JER-LGW flight arriving the night before, will cab over to Heathrow after, at which time there'll be less traffic than the morning, plus the LHR hotels are cheaper than busy JER too.

Noting also that the £1081 fare won't be around for that much longer - so play a bit of caution with that (think May 8th is the deadline).
