Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post #4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread, MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

Help is greatly appreciated. Have a lovely day everyone.
I would look at the PDX flights as an option and add separate booking to BNA.

Even with positioning this will be significantly cheaper than what you have found so far.

Best I see from June 2nd to 16th is £1,627 return with BA. Routing is INV-LHR-ORD-BNA-LHR-INV available with BA all in Business. Connections via PHL on the return were available for the same price if you want to increase the TP's earned.

Hi,

I would like to ask you how to optimize the OTP-PHX fare with respect to earning Avios and OnBusiness points. The transatlantic sectors should be flown on BA metal with a BA flight number? Do flights between JFK and LAX flown on AA with BA flight numbers yield OnBusiness points and more Avios?

Thank you

For avios earning the difference between AA and BA marketed flights is the cabin bonus, which would be 125% on AA and 150% under the BA flight number - so not a great difference. By way of example:

LHR-JFK (BA marketed in I class) - 8645
LHR-JFK (AA marketed in I class) - 7764

JFK-LAX (BA marketed in I class) - 6168
JFK-LAX (AA marketed in I class) - 5569

So not a great difference. Tbh your choice may be dictated by selling and fare availability anyway.

Hi all. My finger's hovering over the trigger on this EU-CUN/CUZ-EU jaunt, but I figured I'd toss it into the arena to see if anyone knew of a lower-priced itinerary with similar destinations. There was once an IB ex-BRU fare that would come in a few hundred pounds south of it, but it seems long gone. Any suggestions?

Hi, thank you for this suggestion. The dates are perfect actually, but I can only see a June 2nd departure in the evening, a approx. 10hr layover in London (which would be ok as I live there anyways) and then another long, 8hr layover in Chicago on June 3rd. Did you manage to price the £1627 with the 1245pm departure from INV on June 2nd? I can only see that on on June 4th.

How much are you getting this for?

And just in case you aren't aware, some LATAM fares (mainly within a single country) do not earn anything - so if you're betting on a certain amount of TP/Avios, be prepared (if you're not the lucky type) to be short (albeit of only) 5 TP!

I did a quick check on Google flights earlier and found the £1,635 fare, but rechecking the timings - there are long gaps on the outbound unfortunately. It seems going out on the 4th and back on the 16th gives you the best connections at the best price if you could delay going out until then. Otherwise it is just a long day of travel on the 3rd.

I did an EDI-JFK then a separate JFK-PDX same date and then same in reverse. The different options that came up included via CLT, PHX or LAX on way out and various others for the return. I changed the departure airport to INV, DUB or EDI to find best times and connections.

I managed to find BHX-AGP for the 19th May using the matrix. Showing direct there and back £200, 90TP's.
But going onto BA site to book it shows no direct outbound on that day, which bumps the price up to over £600
So I phone up the Silver line and explain this, the curt answer I got was "we are not a helpline for the website, but yes there is a direct flight ". OK I'll
book that but don't want to have to pay a phone booking fee because I can't book it online. "Sorry sir, I will still have to charge you £10".

JER-PDX coming in at £1,122 for I think 760 tier points. Seems to be open from May onwards. My limited ITA Matrix skills have let me down as can't seem to route anything other than via LGW on the way out if returning via LHR. I did manage to get flat bed JFK-LAX both ways though and a night in NY! Not sure if more tier points can be eeked out of this by someone more proficient on ITA matrix than me
