Getting to DXB

Hello FTers. I'm looking for some advice please. I'm always impressed with the creativity used in getting great deals and points for journeys that wouldn't occur to me. I need to travel from London to DXB on 27th Jan returning 21st Feb. I'm silver and have approx 150K avois, would like to book Club and upgrade, but can't find any availability at all in First. Is anyone able to help find an alternative route with availability. My outbound dates are flexible +/- 1 - 2 days but my return is fixed. Grateful for any suggestions
👍👍

Try routing through Doha or Abu Dhabi ?
You've maybe left it a bit late to find F availability though..........

Not Doha!

No connections now.

Abu Dhabi is easy though, 1 hour drive and a Ł40 down to Jumeirah Beach. Generally good availability too as the smart money is on Etihad.

Would suggest its too short a flight to add in a connection and the hassle / potential mess up factor. If taking the daytime flights then I wouldn't even worry about not going F - consider burning the avios on a much longer flight in the future?

There is a good fare exMXP/exLIN to DXB, around Ł1100 I think.

I'd just book LHR-AUH for cash in F. Ł1959 vs Ł1659 to DXB. AUH is Ł100 cheaper than DXB each way regardless. I wouldn't be putting 40/48k avios in to save Ł300, even Ł500 is fairly marginal. I might even "put up with" CW and save Ł500.

Many thanks for the suggestions. I'll have a look at MXP/LIN. I agree I've probably left it a bit late. 🙈

For the Milan option, does that mean a routing that would be London, Milan, London, Dubai, London, Milan, London? Is that the way to do it? It would be a good way to keep my Silver status and gain some more avios I guess.

LIN-LHR-DXB-LHR-LIN for €1349.

If you opt for the 108 back, it has F award availability.

As others have mentioned DOH is currently out* for travel to/from the UAE and several other neighboring nations.

*Unless you fancy two more short haul flights via MCT, KWI, etc. that still allow flights to/from Qatar.

Just a quick update. I ended up getting an amazing and slightly bizarre deal with BA. Return in First, which was considerably cheaper than return in Club on the same metal. GBP900 each way (First), instead of GBP2500 (Club) ex LHR. I used the Google flight search tool for the first time which found the flights for me.
