Bristol DO (Concorde visit at Aerospace Bristol museum and evening drinks/meal) 24th Feb. 2018. (a Saturday)
DO activities and timings: (as a guide, this isn't regimented, however, you will want to maximise the Aerospace Bristol time so arriving in a timely manner will help, and later, our restaurant will get nervous if we don't arrive sometime between 7:45 and 8 PM!
I believe we currently have just about enough people car sharing/travelling together to get everyone to Aerospace Bristol from downtown...but if anyone needs a ride or is willing to offer a lift please do post that in the thread or note it on this wiki below by your name please. Ta!

12:10 Meet at DoubleTree Bristol car park to car share (for those that wish to, DT allows a brief entry to their car park without charge)
12:15 to 12:45 Car convoy to Aerospace Bristol (it's about a 30 minute journey in traffic)
12:45 to 13:00 Arrive, Ticket collection at Aerospace Bristol (BotB to wait at entrance for any stragglers!)
13:00 Aerospace Bristol and Concorde visit (we are registered as a group and have a discounted price but it is not a guided tour) £10 / person, please bring cash to the venue to receive your ticket.
16:00 Aerospace Bristol closes for the day
Thereafter car convoy back to DT City Centre
Then, later on...we offer two choices (the equivalent of chicken or beef if you will)...
For the livelier crowd that wants a few local pints before the main meal:
A Mini Pub Crawl being led by When I Travel The World, starting at 18:30 and going until 19:30ish so you'll be at SOTA in time for a nice hot meal and rejoining the rest of us!
The plan currently is to grab a quick beer at Brew Dog and then move onto the Small Bar http://www.smallbar.co.uk/ .

For the rest, or should you wish to do your own thing until just before the evening meal, you can meet up with BotB at the Watershed (an easy place to find and a short walk to the SOTA restaurant afterwards)...I'll be there from 18:30 so show up anytime you like up to 19:30 when I'll take anyone that is with me to SOTA and we'll meet up with the others...

As this info is a bit longer, I thought I'd post in the thread rather than the wiki...it will also bring the DO back to the first page and I'll link to the post in the wiki for those looking for it later.
Bristol is quite good for hotels, whether on a budget or a loyalty member…Some that I think you should consider for the DO are below. Others are naturally available as well but these are the ones I would consider, if anyone has questions about these or ones not mentioned, just post or PM and I’ll happily try to comment/help.
Places to stay:
Near the Concorde (Bristol Aerospace) venue:
Personally, I’d stay in the city centre and get a taxi to the Bristol Aerospace venue as there is certainly more choice and much more to do over the day or two you stay in the centre than where the museum is located. If you are travelling on a tight budget or simply do want to be closer to the museum, there are a few Travelodges or Premier Inn’s located close (but not at) Bristol Aerospace, they are:

A check this weekend for a one night stay on the 24th Feb. shows prices from £ 52. This hotel is only around 500m from Bristol Aerospace and there are some fast food places nearby (Subway and Costa for example)…I believe it is the hotel used for business people visiting Rolls Royce across the road.
Another aviation proximity hotel fairly close to the venue is the Premier Inn Bristol Filton (used by guests to Airbus factory beside it). You are likely about a mile walk to Bristol Aerospace from this hotel but you do get to walk around the soon to be no more Filton runway area (its to become a housing development). There are again some fast food venues here and a small mall. This hotel is on Gloucester Road, apparently the road with the most independent stores on it in the UK (don’t hold me to that but in any case a lovely ‘independent vibe’ to the road as you head into the city centre, if somewhat ‘raw.’

Prices for the 24th start from £ 40 (a steal for Bristol hotels to be sure!)
There are also Premier Inn and Travelodge hotels at the motorway junction for Cribbs Causeway (a large industrial estate with one of the two biggest shopping malls in Bristol located here) just off the M5 motorway. I’ll not post links but these two are also around 2 miles to Bristol Aerospace but will lack any ambience at all…
Moving to the city centre and to the hotels with loyalty schemes (one notable exception):

Getting to Bristol (for those that have not been or are not familiar!)
Transport options to get to the DO: I appreciate that most (if not all) attending the DO will be living in the UK and know how to get here or already have been, however, should anyone be attending from farther afield and not be familiar I hope this transport post will help. Obviously, if anyone has any questions about transport please do post or PM and I’ll get back to you.
The suggestions from the aerospace Bristol museum page is a good place to start:

(which lists directions for car and coach as well as links to train and bus public transport methods)
By Air: https://www.bristolairport.co.uk
As this is an FT DO…obviously, people may fly down to BRS (Bristol airport). There are rental cars available there, as well as public transport routes into the city. (taxi and buses).
Generally for people travelling on a domestic flight to get here, there are plenty of BMI Regional, EasyJet and RyanAir (did I just type that? ) Seriously, there are plenty of flights to Bristol. (or nearby Cardiff, Exeter or Birmingham if you so wish…BA are looking to fly from Bristol soon but you won't be able to fly into Bristol with BA for this DO...even with a creative TP routing! (yet AFAIK)
The below maps give a view on the locations of the various transport methods into the city and to the museum as well as the motorways to Bristol. (both maps copyright of Google Maps, with some additional markings by me!)

By Car:
As for travelling by road, Bristol is at the junction of the two key motorways in this part of the UK, the M4 and the M5. Depending on where you are staying, the M32 (off the M4) is a good route to get to the city centre.
By Rail:
GWR (Great Western Railway) is the West Country line and there are a few stations in Bristol. The main station for the city centre is Bristol Temple Meads, built by Brunel and worth seeing in its own right. You can walk to most city centre hotels from this station.
Bristol Parkway is a station closer to Filton and the museum and you could get a taxi from there to the museum and then hopefully catch a ride downtown afterwards with one of us that is driving.
Bristol Keynsham is between Bath and Bristol but not convenient for any hotels, city centre or the museum! Patchway is also not a station I would suggest using.

What an emotive icon. You'll have seen that there was some footage of the Aerospace Bristol museum and it does whet the appetite!
Anyone like to join us after watching this? (or even without watching it!
)Open to all, Concorde is but one part of the museum! Filton, Bristol Aviation, Airbus, Rolls Royce all local here....

Just looking at public transport options from the centre of Bristol: according to the First Group map, buses 78 and 82 serve the museum (routes 75 and 79 are close by too). The website for getting the timetables is pretty awful - I'd rely on Google Maps, I think! - but there only seem to be a couple an hour.
Depending on people's plans, it might therefore be worthwhile for people to share a taxi from central Bristol. I will defer to BotB for local knowledge of this!
