... and generally yes BA GGLs / Golds would be the ones to end up in the F cabin if used - not sure about EXPs. It's rare but not impossible for the cabin to open up for broader seat selection but then you also run the risk of being put back into CW seats if the F cabin doesn't need to be used in the end.

Whenever I have been in this position, the airport decides who goes up front and fortunately the 3 times I've been in this situation where the F cabin has been used, I have been selected. They don't fill the F cabin if they don't need to, though. There are a couple of threads talking about "FLUB" which I would point you to if I wasn't on a train right now..

It amazes me that BA regularly send their 777’s with the new Club suites to a leisure heavy route like MCO, yet cities like JFK & BOS get 777-300ER’s, A380, 789 - all with the awful old club world seats. Is there some premium heavy market from LHR to MCO over JFK or BOS that they do this?

Me too, which is why I'm puzzled places why MCO and even places like PHX, GCM, NAS & BDA all regularly have 777's with new club suites.

Well my next flight to NY in June is scheduled to be club suite and my next flight to MCO in September old club seat. AIUI this is the pattern for most of the summer to these two destinations.

so i have a possible flub coming up as it is a 4-class plane and J is currently showing all seats taken with expertflyer showing J2 only remains.

having learned earlier about selecting a seat in F to lose my great CW seat and being stuck in a subpar one--the F cabin isnt even available to select but if it does upon check in lets say, is it still best to just keep my CW seats and presume the airport sorts it out being GGL?

this seems to be the best advice because with covid load fluctuations are common and you might end up moving forward only to be put back into poor seats. If the front cabin is open I'm sure as GGL you'll get moved forward but this might happen in the 24 hours before departure, the advice is to do olci early but don’t download the boarding pass.

Having been FLUB'd on the BA58 a couple of nights ago, I would support this approach. The F cabin was unavailable right up until I checked in just after T-24. It was also showing as being blocked off on Expert Flyer on the day of the flight. I'd been regularly checking the situation in the days leading up to the flight (T-72, T-48, T-24) and nothing was opening up.

We'd been allocated 16A and 16B right at the back of the OCW cabin, as that was all that was left when we booked, and so were keen to move to the F cabin if possible.

I took the advice of firstlight and checked in but did not download our boarding passes.

I am GCH and OH is SCH, and when we arrived at check in we had "automatically" been re-assigned to 2E and 2F - presumably on status / CIV basis.

Hope this helps others in similar circumstances - especially on this route as it appears that the BA58/9 rotation is FLUB'd pretty constantly at the moment due to high load factors and capacity being reduced from 2 x 772s to 1 x 773 since 27th March.

Just got FLUB'ed on tonight's BA59 LHR-CPT. The flight was fairly busy at J2/C0 a couple of days out already but Expertflyer kept showing all F seats as blocked. Whilst I had initially checked in for 10K, I was automatically reseated to 2A whilst in the CCR.

My flight home tomorrow DFW->LHR has changed in the last couple of hours. I'd originally booked F but then got told the plane was changed to 3 class, so moved to J. I've just checked MMB and the seat map has changed, and allowed me to select 1A in what would have been F. I'm guessing that this is a FLUB, and I run the risk of it all changing, but I was previously booked into 2J, which doesn't exist in the new config anyway!

I have a friend coming back on the flight from Delhi on the 24th so check in is now 9 hours away (with flight departure in about 35). They are in Club and the flight is a 787-9 which has been scheduled on this rotation for many months but F is not sold on the Delhi route and normally a 787-8 operates. Currently the flight is showing near full with only J3 C3 W3 and Y3 showing and the F cabin opened up (so it seems) a few hours ago. Do you think it is worth the risk moving into a FLUB seat or should they keep their current "good" seat in regular J (ie what are the chances they will shut F again and/or should I wait for actual check in)

The general consensus view is that moving to FLUB is done taking a view of BA elite status and happens around check in time, if your friend is BA gold or ggl then any move they make into flub if cw is full is more likely to stick, otherwise they are taking a risk if cw does not fill as expected or airport ops decide to reallocate those seats to status passengers.
