I think I have one of these situations scheduled - the seat map says 777 but there's a row 1 and 2, then 5 -7. Row 2 is currently greyed out, row 1 isn't but you can't book it. Sadly I don't think I'll have got gold by the time the flight comes round (but only just shy) so maybe I should sneak in an extra trip in the hope I'll get to sit at the front.

Just so you all know - I checked my friend in at checkin time last night and rows 1 and 2 were not available on the checkin screen and were not even shown (J begining at Row 6).

I kept an eye on it and 6 hours later I noticed all middle seats (1EF,2EF) and 2A had been assigned with 1K and 2K still showing as free. Even though I had not printed the boarding pass I could not go back in to OLCI and change my seat (system did not allow seat change, just said pick up BP at airport) so my friend rang up BA in India and they moved the previously checked-in seat to 1K.

So, happy camper in Delhi and goes to show that being quick on the draw is not always the best option. Next time, if FLUB not available at T-24 I will wait to see if it opens up during the OLCI window as happened this time

I was 1K for the CPT-LHR leg up until OLCI, when I was moved to row 10, presumably because of FLUBing. I stupidly didn't read this thread before I hurriedly OLCIed and have also emailed a BP to myself. I am GCH and now wondering whether I have I killed my chance of moving up front...

Update: I didn't - I was given 2K as soon as the First cabin opened up. A very happy customer and excellent service on board. Bravo BA.

It's disappointing that F isn't available on any airline to any of the principal ski destinations, but a free hard product upgrade would go a long way to offset my disappointment.
Yeah it’s a strange one. Seems like it shouldn’t be hard to fill Club as well as first from Denver at that time of year. I’m also doing DEN-LHR early Jan supposedly on the 781. I’ve currently got the best seat in the house (5K) which I’m thrilled with. I’d be quite happy to burn some miles or some cash for an upgrade if they do sell first. Also happy to get flubbed. But I’d be well cheesed off to get downgraded to the middle seat in row 12 if we end up on the 789. I’ll be GGL by then and I just might end up getting written up by one of you in the DYKWIA thread

Just a quick look at EF shows today’s flight (789) is borderline for flubbing. If we do stay on the 787-10 in Jan and no first class for sale, I’m almost certain there shall be flub.

Tomorrow’s 192 from DFW to LHR has switched from a 3 class 772 to a 4 class 77W. I was originally in 2K but the Home Screen now shows 7A. However, when I go into change my seat it shows me still sitting in 2K. If they open up the F cabin for FLUB (currently blocked) I would hope I stand a good chance of being allocated a seat as GGL. The question is - do I need to actively try and get a seat at OLCI or is it more commonly done by the system automatically if they open up the cabin?

i was on the same flight this time last week. Also changed from 4 class to 3, and I was able to select 2K. However it was run as a 3 class flight with no First, and I had to deselect my seat at check in. Luckily I got a decent seat, but I wouldn’t pin your hopes on staying in F…

Is FLUB available to OneWorld Emeralds? Currently booked in CW 777-300 LHR-SAN, Y is down to 1 seat and W 0. First is blocked and wasn’t sure if as a OW Emerald (Alaska) I would have FLUB access.

It's not the case that any tier level "gets access". And Y or W being full is not directly relevant. Flub is used when J is full. And the system will bump you to flub if you qualify. No one is exaxtly sure what gets you flubbed, but GGL seems more likely than Gold for example. No clue what treatment of non-BA elites is like. Usual advice is to do nothing. If you get selected, you'll get bumped up. If somehow you are able to select a seat in flub betwen now and checkin, there is a good chance the system will bump you back down into a worse seat than the one you've already carefully selected in CW. Not tragic in case of 77W, but could be annoying if you were in old CW and got bumped to a middle seat.

Just as a data point I ignored all the advice on this thread. I moved my seat to 1K as soon as it became available at T-72. System bumped me back to 5K within 24hrs and F cabin was blocked again. I checked in at T-24. F cabin opened up 30 mins before boarding. Asked if I could move and got told no. Got to the gate, name was called, thought I’d got lucky but nope it was a document check.

So not much hope. Scanned BP and red beep and I got moved up at the last minute.

Interestingly I’m surprised that they didn’t fill the F cabin. We only 5 people were moved up and when someone was suspected of self-Flub the CC questioned them. Would have thought BA would use it as an opportunity to show the cabin to some other J passengers based on a “they may pay in the future” algorithm, but not today.

Seems the system worked in that only you as a gold and maybe some others in a similar position were moved up, it could have been J was only slightly oversold or they had to move other passengers up at the last moment.

Self-FLUB is new term for this thread, was the person really trying their luck or were they legitimate but just asked to confirm their seat?

If the CW cabin has 40 seats and the First cabin has 5 seats and 41 passengers check in only 1 can be seated in First, the First cabin can only be used as an overflow.

They had been moved up legitimately by SCCM but another member of crew checked and asked for BP until it was clarified. I was surprised with it “just being overflow business” that they would enforce.

Hi,
Forgive me for not reading the entirety of this thread but I have a flight with this 4 cabin layout coming up. As I understand it my best bet it to do OLCI but not print out a boarding pass and hope for the best.

Have a few questions:
1) Does status affect anything? I'm silver and this isn't a particularly status heavy route.
2) Do I still choose my seat before OLCI or not?
3) If one is put into the first cabin do they receive the ground benefits? Eg first wing/CCR or purely same experience as club with different seat?
4) Anything else to know/do to further my chance of moving to First cabin?

Thanks

1) no, there is no science behind who gets auto allocated - you also may need to call for a seat
2) as above
3) no. It’s a straightforward Club experience
4) don’t think about it until a day or two before travel is my advice
