Having a lot more experience of short haul CX than BA I (OWE) always receive a small bottle of Evian before take off and usually (75%) an offer of champagne post meal. It is quite obvious that this is a SOP for the CSM equivalent of CX. My memory tells me BA does not prioritise this in the same way generally.

It is utterly consistent on CX. Usually, the Purser of the cabin will welcome you, as well as the CSM equivalent at some point during the flight. It can be a little embarrassing in a full cabin sometimes, as I am not one to require smoke blown up my rear end. However, the welcomes are always very genuine, especially so if you have flown with the crew member before.

I see this a little differently. Well done for asking ^ However, this time they couldn't do it, for what seems like a reasonable explanation. What isn't clear though is why you would let that stop you from asking in the future for something else? They may say yes, they may say no. Most likely, they would like to say yes and please you. Now you deny both yourself and them (unless it is only expresso from F that you would ever want!)

The BA offer aligns with the practise of cabin crew on AA domestics in Y; they offer you a paid for drink or snack, as with everyone else, but when they use their device to start the transaction, seeing your seat highlighted in green as a OWE, they say "Oh, you're Exec Platinum - no charge."

On a recent AA Y flight, I slept through the (paid) catering service, so headed to the galley when I woke up starving. I asked them for juice and a croissant, but when they discovered I was OWE, loaded me up with all I could carry, for free.

All you will get from me is a cheery hello and a bottle of water, these SCCMs who offer more are just making a rod for the own back and I question why they do this as BA would not back them up if there were complaints, I leave the rimming to those who specialise in that sort of thing.

Just a question, why can other carriers manage it (consistently) whereas on BA often the CSD/CSM is "too busy"?

Probably because we are tied to a trolley, just take a look at our crewing levels and the size of our Club cabins.

It's not until you are crew that you realise just how many people have status

let alone a bottle of Evian up the rear end washed down (up?) with a glass of bubbles

and not not to forget the MH crew who can do the 2 handed handshake which still to my very sceptical eye looks genuine

Well, I wish they were all like you coz I have never been offered a bottle of water since BoB sadly. I would be delighted to receive one!

I can only assume you're making a reference to the preparation of a margarita glass, here, which tbh I'd much prefer over a mini bottle of Castlenau.

Coarse salt can be painful

Jokes aside, I have been offered things every now and then in short haul Y, but almost half the time, another passenger will try to piggy back off my “gift”, by saying “ I will have some champagne too”, which puts the CSD/M in an awkward position. Once they sent the other passenger a glass off white wine and sprite, the other passenger started grumbling, so handed him a glass of champagne, and all happy!

However, I can see how this can make it awkward for CC, so until BoB exceptions for Golds/GGLs etc are more defined, I will continue to turn down such requests. At best, you get a free glass of bubbly, at worst you annoy another passenger who sends in a complaint, and get the CC in trouble for something that was meant as a kind gesture... Golden Rule...
