BA bringing back the second meal on long haul routes

http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/...-a8040651.html

There has also been criticism of a cost-saving move to reducing catering in economy on longer flights. The traditional second meal on routes such as from London to the US west coast has been replaced by a snack, to the consternation of many passengers.

“We will upgrade catering so that everyone has better snacks and, on longer flights, everyone has a full second meal,’ said Mr Cruz.

Me thinks NPS is taking a beating currently. The right decision, nevertheless.

I thought longer long haul had always kept a decent, hot second meal?

On day flights to the west coast USA, WT+ and WT passengers currently receive a hot folded mozzarella and pesto pizza, small cake and a choice of tea/coffee for the second service.

On the return the second service is a choice of the full English or omelette

Would you consider this a "decent hot meal"? This is the second "meal" on YYC-LHR

Well, one can reach the west by just going far enough to the east, so easy to confuse...

Looks familiar from the SFO route awhile back. If you had a food fight with that "croissant" you'd be up for assault with a blunt weapon. Since then I've self-catered for the second meal when travelling down the back.

Positive change should be praised: If BA are bringing back a sensible second meal on a total journey of 7-10 hours (depending on where on the US East Coast you start from and your boarding and arrival immigration experiences), good.

I miss the scones and clotted cream they used to have on flights to the west coast.

Presumably the microscopic mars bar will remain on East Coast routes however...

Funny enough the YVR-LHR route has a 2nd meal consisting of a pretzel bun instead of the croissant. The way back was a even worse.

If it makes you feel any better AC offers yogurt and banana bread. Not sure what's worse.

I was getting that this summer still but my flight last week was some crummy chicken salad sandwich with a biscuit. Not sure if the scone has since disappeared or my flight had a catering exception.

Just to confirm, there’s no scones or Afternoon Tea on West Coast Flights?

If that’s the case I have serious expectation management ahead for our first West Coast J flights next year. My Wife’s favourite thing about our last CW flight was afternoon tea and scones.

Might need to resort to bringing my own scones to manage the fall out!

I believe this story and redress to service is related to Economy and Prem Economy flights. I think you’ll be fine in CW, unless it’s just the scones that are really your worry here?!
