BA's Continuing Curtaination Chaos Conundrum...

It's happened, again.

EU A319 flight, (divider was behind row 5 when booked), so put myself into 8A to give a margin.

48 hours out, the divider has moved.

MMB shows "08A - Confirmed" :

Seat map is below. I don't have a "Your Seat" icon anymore. So, where am I sitting ? Where is "8A (middle)" ?

So what to do ? FWIW, Flight is currently showing as 4Y / 8C.
1) Nothing, and hope the divider moves again, and I'm back in 8A. ?
2) Nothing, and hope I'm upgraded ?
3) Move myself to a window seat at the back ?
4) Rant at BA for such a cruddy elite customer experience ?

5) Sit back and wait for usual suspects to tell you it's all your fault and you were being entirely unrealistic here.

Hoping is usually quite a useless strategy, so option 3 or 4 it is...last time I went with option 3, just waiting for someone to prove me wrong and I should have lived on hope! :P

It's all a bit of a mess, isn't it.

You could certainly be forgiven for going for option 4)

'elite customer experience"??? Wrong airline I'm afraid

Am sure the response you receive will be more "nuanced" than other posters.Comments such as "use another airline", or "its cheap, what did you expect?" or "book further back next time" will likely not be thrown at you. Although if not one of your 4 a yearor an exclusive route I am not sure why you are on it.

I'm sure it will sort itself out as it always does and I'm sure CWS or some other Wizard will be along shortly with a detailed explanation.

Here is a similar thread.

Curtained-shifted, upgraded or none of the above?

5) Should have booked early enough to snag 10C exit row.

The 8A "Middle" bit is a red herring to Curtain Roulette: since the new seating maps came in, all sorts of seats have been called Middle (e.g. the A321 Club Europe seats) whether aisle or window. I think I even saw a real middle seat being described as aisle. Just a glitch with the new seat maps (and it occasionally happened on the old seat maps too). So you can safely ignore that bit, the seat map will correctly say where you would be.

However yes, in this case you have lost the current round of Curtain Roulette, it may be that you can't move either. I would normally agree that row 8 should have been fine (but why on earth didn't you select row 10????) if CE was row 5. Some routes (AMS, FRA, GVA) one can suspect that CE will go a fair way back, 5 is quite modest, but typical for some places like DUB.

If you can select, I would go for the best seat in ET that you can, since if the curtain does not move you won't be upgraded necessarily and the later you leave it, then Rendition Seat 25A may well beckon if everything else gets snaffled up. However I would then check every so often to see if you can get something better. Or if CE is decreased, you could take the risk on row 8 again......

If you PM me your flight I can check Expert Flyer and forward the Club seat map to you.

I'm always having this sort of trouble at Waitrose

I carefully select a particular cut of meat at the deli counter, pay for it at the check-out ..... and it's safely mine. Well ....until a member of staff rushes after me once I've left the store. They say they need my meat back to give to another customer :"We've got another piece for you" (but it's never as good as the one I selected myself .....)
