If your flight is departing within 7 days, give BAEC a call and they can see availably on CX

Not sure when/where you're looking to book, but please note the following thread when booking CX awards through BAEC:

CX blocking award availability when it's close to departure?

Yes, well known issue, discussed in other threads previously. Also note that AA has access to less CX availability than BA (from memory, if there are 4 business class seats available, BA will see 4 while AA only 2).

got my Cathay flight booked by AA, so problem solved, just noticed that for a while the CX flights were showing up on BA but not recently, unless they are now

BA award search on CX is used as a prime tool for a non-oneworld airline members of which it has very cheap redemption rate in premium cabins on CX between Europe and Hong Kong. BA award is also used heavily by the same country's members to search JAL/CX short haul availability by using Avios purchased cheaply.

I would not be surprised to see further restrictions in near future besides the 7 days rule.
