Upgraded to First; refund on seat selection fees?

I originally booked our upcoming return tickets to SAN in WT+, then a few days later pre-selected our seats so that the 3 people in our party could sit together. The cost of the seat selection being £338.

I recently upgraded the tickets to First and the cost was simply the difference between the two classes. Just wondering if I should have requested/was entitled to a refund on the original selection fee?

Thatís quite the jump from WTP to F must have been a good price.

as F seat selection is free a quick phone call and they should be able to arrange a refund as no longer travelling in WTP, may take a few days being a typical refund but should be stress free.

me personally Iíd never spend that much to pick seats in a small cabin like WTP

good luck and have a great time in F

as below use the link, easier than calling. Donít think online was an option when I claimed but this was a while ago. Rules in a later post confirm upgrading makes this claim valid

Indeed:

'When you can claim a refund

You can claim a refund for seats you paid to reserve if:

-there is an aircraft change, or your flight has been cancelled and we’re unable to move you to a suitable alternative seat that you’re happy with
-you become unable to meet the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) safety requirements to sit in an exit row seat and you contact us at least 48 hours before your flight
-you have paid for an upgrade and do not wish to pay the difference in order to reselect your seat in the alternative cabin'

Thanks very much for posting this- I don't think I would have found it buried in the website.

I've submitted my form and we'll see what BA have to say about it!
