Buy on Board M&S menu enhancements

Being Avios rich, I am one of the few people who welcomed the introduction of the BOB menu.

I flew recently in Traveller and I can not help to notice how all the healthy fresh options have been enhanced away. The menu got downgraded.

*No more fresh fruit salads
*No more chicken/vegetable salads
*No more yoghurt pots.

It is now basically a bunch of unhealthy snacks and poor sandwiches.

Do you think it was difficult to keep them fresh? Or were they not selling well?

I would welcome the introduction of new hot options but this does not seem to happen either...

The unhealthy, preservative laiden stuff if logistically easier, hence why that's what all the LCCs sell. Not surprised to see BA follow

And people need comfort food to help forget about the misery of ET- after all ordering a fruit salad is only going to make you even more unhappy.

They market BOB as "a seasonally inspired menu", which I never fully understood, but now this makes sense... Salads only available in the summer

Not surprised. I've noticed the 'healthy' food options are always last to go whether it be in a J cabin snack bar or hotel breakfast buffet.

The same reason that the Croque-Monsieur has been enhanced away from CE ... far too popular, and nobody wanted the endless bloody healthy salads. Actually, most of the greenery seems to have gone too, so have a lump of cold pasta to go with your cold dehydrated protein element.

No more fresh fruit salads
I doubt that these packed salads are any fresher or healthier than the sandwiches on offer.
Just because it looks like a salad, doesn't mean it's healthy.

Um... maybe have a look at the calorie/fat/salt/sugar content and then comment.

Thanks.

I suspect that the price point at which these sold doesn't make up for the catering and service costs associated with fresh foods, their storage and safety requirements.

After not many hours, those items are tossed and are unappealing even if not dangerous.

Perhaps you're overly influenced by living in a country where breakfast (in my experience) consists of caramel sauce spread liberally on overly sweetened breads?

Those kinds of salad are so full of chemicals to let it keep an appealing color and not to rot too quickly.

I'd say there's a large quantity of sugar in the fruit salads, one of those things, like orange juice which people refuse to believe is unhealthy when it clearly is... Call it fructose if you want, but it makes it no less calorie laden.

Normal salad can often be smothered with sweet and oily dressing, thus leading to situations in places like wetherspoons where the bowl of chilli and rice has less calories than salad... I can't comment on the BA onboard one...

Never sure of yoghurt, be it low fat (higher sugar) or full sugar, only ones which appear to be relatively healthy are the ones containing no fruit and flavouring...

Still, so much for the wonderful choice of the Buy onboard service, eh?
