Onboard WiFi has been introduced to BA's fleet and is being marketed as Highlife Connect. This thread is to track the rollout. See https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb.../wifi-on-board for BA's FAQ on the system.

I think also the thread title would be better for an update as I think it’s out there now on enough aircraft for people to access right?

I know SH is still being trialed but it must be going fully live soon? Or is it a soft slow switch on for those?

Tried out the WiFi on a 772 and 747 a fortnight ago. Both times I paid for the streaming package (mainly out of fear that the ordinary offer would be too slow), although I'm not sure how much success I'd have had if I did want to watch Netflix - as BA suggests when you connect. It was good for social media browsing, Spotify, the odd YouTube clip. Posting a single image from my phone to social media took about 30 seconds. The short video clip I tried to send never even posted.

So, yes, it's a start - but have your movies ready before you board.

Upload is going to be (at least) an order of magnitude slower than download. I always take my own IFE with me that will work offline.

I got my first Domestic wifi today, NCL - LHR on G-EUPM, therefore I think when combined with the SOF prices (post 512) we can see the range of shorthaul packages. £1.99 for shorter sectors, £2.99 for longer, £4.99 for one hour of streaming.

Just offering another data point from BA52, a B772 from SEA to LHR: I remember seeing some people in this thread selecting the basic browsing package and it being fast enough to stream: not so lucky today. Browsing is still surprisingly speedy, though, and I'm happy with the reliability of the signal. Much better than the free WiFi on Norwegian services, probably due to oversubscription.

Wow - that's actually a decent upload speed - I'm pleasantly surprised!

Anyone know how the OnAir connectivity service they have on BA1/2 works (i know it has something to do with roaming)? Is it any good?

It's GSM services only. Really just calls and SMS, forget about data. Your carrier has to have a roaming agreement with OnAir and if it does the service will still likely be very, very expensive. Honestly, just pretend it isn't even there.

Just flew ZBKK, the WiFi was not activated until half way into the flight, the pop up showed on the IFE screen saying we could now connect to WiFi with no prior announcement. On decent they announced it would stop working shortly. This was on LHR-BOS, could it be that there is no coverage over the eastern Atlantic once off the shore of Ireland? But the climb to FL400 took around 25mins, so WiFi should have been available just a few minutes after take-off.

Am currently on 380 G-XLEG LHR-BOS on WiFi. Purchased the streaming (high speed) full flight pass for $30. Have been on VPN for the last 4 hours or so without any issue. Even got on the phone (via VOIP) for a few minutes and that worked fine. I know I'm not supposed to... I was just listening in to the call.
