Theoretical Reward Flight upgrade Q
Not sure whether or not this is well known or not.
If I have an existing booking in WT+, using a credit card companion voucher, and there is availability on the flight, can I pay for an upgrade to J? And if so, would I get tier points equal to the difference in classes? |
You can upgrade with Avios if CW availability opens up. I think you might be able to get an upgrade offer in MMB (POUG) but don't think you can do a "fare difference" upgrade. You might be able to do a paid upgrade at the airport (AUP), but its not guaranteed, even if there are J seats available.
You won't get any TPs in any scenario. |
You don't get the TPs/Avios (or rather, you shouldn't get them.... and normally you won't). But you are eligible for POUGs and AUPs in this situation, though POUGs will only happen in very touchless bookings. You can't do a fare difference upgrade.

I didn't think you could upgrade a reward booking with Avios which is what I assume the original WT+ companion booking was?

You won't get any TPs in any scenario. If reward availability does open up in a higher cabin the OP can call to change in to the higher cabin. The cost will be the extra avios due, a change fee of £35 per person, and any extra taxes/fees/charges which are due. Reward bookings do not earn avios and TPs so nothing would be earned whether changed or not. AUPs and POUGs may be possible - although I think they are rare on reward bookings - but again no avios and TPs would be earned. |

If the OP has booked a reward flight using a 2-4-1 then a UuA isn't possible. You can only UuA revenue bookings, not reward ones.

EF says nada on all options at present so unless a bunch more get released I suspect that's that. I can see seat availability for the bassinet position at present on the leg I want to upgrade so I figured I'd check. Don't mind doing it with Avios for 0TP either, but suspect I just can't get the availability at present. On the plus side, have just used EF for the first time properly and it's impressive (I think, anyway). |
