BA1496 go around [LHR-GLA, 13 Aug 2017]

BA1496 go around [LHR-GLA, 13 Aug 2017]
Aborted approach, the ba flight from Gatwick hit a bird so the Heathrow flight had to abort it's approach

For those on the board who don't memorize the flight numbers, shuttle 1496 is LHR-GLA

Probably missing something here but how could a LHR flight be effected by a LGW flight hitting a bird?

Just a guess but LGW flight hits birds
Runway checked for debris meaning that the LHR flight couldn't land temporarily. Runway checked and all ok. LHR flight lands

Or something similar

No, this all happened at GLA presumably.

LGW-GLA plane landed first, hit a bird.
LHR-GLA plane was behind it and due to land next, but couldn't because plane with bird matter in engine was on the runway; or the runway needed to be checked.

LHR-GLA plane had to go around as a result.

I think.

jeez a relatively interesting post goes the same way as many threads in here.
Go arounds are not actually that common.
Todays scenario resulted in a mini holding 'stack' on the approach which is not common either.

Live on the approach flightpath to GLA and was watching the Perseid meteor shower last night and thought there was something out of the ordinary with Flights on approach. This event would explain the reasons why.

I was on this flight too. Disappointingly non-dramatic as the approach was discontinued somewhere around about Bearsden, so not exactly last minute.

More annoying was sitting on a very hot plane, all boarded, waiting for a flight crew to turn up!

At least one a day at LHR, I would consider that common.
