If BA is about to announce a LHR to Vegas route with the A380, this could be a game changer in the travel industry. More Brits heading to Vegas instead of Spain or Italy perhaps.

Why? To be honest, Vegas announcements by Thomson or Thomas Cook have undoubtedly a bigger impact than a change of plane by BA. A bigger plane merely adapts capacity to demand, just like the 388 to YVR merely acknowledged changed capacity but did not revolutionise UK tourism to Vancouver and Victoria.

Game changer? LOL. May be Dubai might lose a few visitors if and when but Spain and Italy are very worried, Not!

Spain is becoming very hostile to British tourism power these day's...anarchist running wild in Barcelona.....slow immigration lines at Spanish airports..it's all going belly up I think for Spain as a holiday destination.

Time to look West.

He's confirmed that it's in the US, so I guess it's a straight fight between LAS and ORD

Given they are courting A380 operators, this doesn't appear to be an issue for McCarran. Given the number of runways available it would be no big deal to delay departures on RWY 25R or send them to 19R whilst an A380 lands/taxis to stand from 25L, for example.

Remember that Vegas can't support "heavy" planes in hot weather - Norwegian cancelled flights there this summer.

I am having trouble imagining an A380 seasonal (winter) service to Vegas.

One of the most bizarre claims I've seen on FT for a while.

I think you are underestimating the A380 performance.

Question. How do heavy jets takexoff in the middle east and South East Asia with full tanks and full passenger loads everyday with surface temperatures past 34 deg celcius and 95% humidity?

Not sure that is correct - BA have double B747 services most days, Virgin have 2 x B747 (LGW & MAN) several times a week, Condor fly their A330s there several days from one place or another, Korean send a B777 5 times a week.
