SSSS at Heathrow

Just checked in for BA191 and have the dreaded ssss on my bp. I didn't get pulled aside however at security.

Will I get a beep at the gate, or some kind of extra security once arriving into the States? Or is it just not always extra screening when you get the quad?

You will be screened again at the gate, your bags will be search and you will be asked a few questions. Make sure your electronics have power too, they will likely be checked and you will not be allowed to take them with you if they do not power up.

You will get a beep at the gate and one of the G4S folks will search your bags. All the best!

The additional check will happen at the gate.

Make sure your travelling companion is holding all the bags when they go through the gate - will make things faster if you have nothing on you.

Ah ok, thanks for the replies...great.

I guess it's better than it happening on arrival, which it did last time into LAX. Although this is a bit different. Likely due to my being on a Green Card?

Hate being pulled aside for this stuff...time for some champagne!! ^

It's likley you will get SSSS'ed on all your internal flights and your leaving flights, so might be an idea to leave some extra time at the airports. I would find a security person and show them the SSSS on your boarding card and get escorted to the front for your gropeing.

Also make sure they do the extra search because security sometimes miss it, but there is another check at the aircraft door and if you have not been given the enhanced search you won't be allowed on board.

Guess I was lucky then. I had the SSSS on my recent MAN-PHL flight but not on the subsequent 4 flights on the same PNR, including domestic US flights.

I had a few last year and just got the extra search at the gate at LHR before the TATL. Didn't seem to appear on any other flights on the booking.

I had SSSS on LHR-JFK on AA, but then did not have it for the other 3 flights in the USA, JFK-LAX // LAX - DFW // DFW - BOS.

Not had it since either.

Come to think of it, this would almost certainly be because it's a one way booking and I'm not a citizen.

Talk about security as a theatre.

Having an SSSS on the boarding pass is not at all going to alert anybody to the fact they are going to be searched and that they should have a traveling companion take all their stuff on board.

I only had this once and it was when I was connecting to the US from IST, which I kind of understand, except warning the victim that they have been "randomly" selected seems a foolhardy thing to do if you are really concerned about security.

Being chosen as a 'Selectee' is not a random choice.
