Unusual business class - A321

Just boarded the 1305 LHR to Edinburgh and the business class is something I've never seen before. Large fixed IFE screens, lots of brown cloth and plastic. Economy (where I am) is the old fashioned seats. Is a airbus A321 -is this an old fit out for medium haul (Tel Aviv, Moscow etc) that has crept onto the route today?

Sounds like an old BMI bird...

Yes, sometimes they pop up on the Europe and Domestic routes.

The ex-BMI A321s can be found domestic and Continental European runs relatively frequently.

Thanks for the insight! A European club seat that actually looks like you could do some work on it. What a revelation.

Yep, I think they're on DME, AMM, BEY and some TLV. They also used to go to CAI but that's gone back to a widebody now, though a long time til we see a 747 back on that route I suspect...

In the summer the ATH route gets them daily if i remember correctly. It's just a shame that i find ATH-LHR-ATH summer fares a bit too expensive at 500 EUR return instead of 150 in the winter!

I finally got one of these on a shorthaul flight today to DUB. It puts the BAQR shorthaul Club Europe seat to shame.

IIRC the LHR-OSL route sees them fairly frequently. They're head and shoulders above the usual CE cabin! Should be pointed out though that it's the same CE service as normal, which means they don't provide headphones so if you don't have your own you don't get any sound on the IFE...

The IFE should remain switched off as BA isn't licenced to play it on Domestic or shorthaul routes (except LCA, IST, ATH and LED).

I had one on a LHR-MAN flight last month. For a moment I thought I'd boarded the wrong plane.
