Selecting seats on AA flight number operated by BA

Can you select seats in advance as BA Gold on an AA flight but operated by BA?

I'd like to book the emergency exit seats..

I can book the exact same flights on BA but there is a US$140 fare difference!

Yes that's fine. Are you booking it with AA? Your AA PNR won't work on BA.com, but if your BAEC number is in when booking it on aa.com you should see a BA PNR appear in your list of future bookings on your BAEC homepage, and you should be able to go in to that and select seats for the BA operated flights as usual.

I've just done this myself and it worked fine (using KARFA's method above).

I'll be booking with Expedia.com which uses AMADEUS so I'l lhave access to it on ba.com

Thanks for the info. Why why why does BA charge more for their own flights I wonder?

Different inventory for AA and BA codeshares. Can be that lower inventory is not available on the AA code and so BA coded would be cheaper.

Booking class is "S".

Both AA and BA show availability...

Fare is actually cheaper on AA than BA.
