How do codeshares work?
I just did a tour de Asia, and realised that i never see any BA flights on codeshare with oneworld partners, sometimes you might get a Sri Lankan airlines codeshare ..
On one occasion i flew from Kuala Lumpur to Seoul and Malaysia were codesharing with Korean Air who are skyteam..
Ive never seen a Qatar Airways flight form Doha with a BA codeshare number, and even the lounges seem a mess where oneworld memebers would rather use a skyteam or star alliance lounge.
Yet, its common place for BA to codeshare on a lot of AA flights intra US which most europeans i would guess arent going to do Omaha to Des Moines on a frequent basis.
So how does this whole process work, would BA have to pay to codeshare a route? Obviously it also drastically affects the number of avios you get when its impossible to fly Kuala Lumpur to Seoul unless you go KL - LHR - ICN which isnt practical... Any thoughts?

There are *lots* of BA codeshares on flights within Asia - for example HKG-SGN, BKK-HKT, HND-KIX - but you can typically only buy them as part of a long-haul BA itinerary.
If you're flying purely intra-Asia, or intra-America, well that's not BA's market. So while you won't get a codeshare on a pure Omaha to Des Moines flight (if that even exists?) you *will* see BA codes on say, Omaha or Des Moines to Chicago, which forms part of a ticket onwards to London and elsewhere on BA's network.

In most cases you cannot book a BA codeshare flight on its own, only as part of a BA ticket with longhaul segment on BA or JV partner. They are predominantly offered on shorthaul routes not operated by BA from/to airports BA do serve longhaul, and on JV partner longhaul routes ex-LON.
QR does not offer many routes that would work as a BA codeshare, as BA serves many directly.

Plenty of BA/QR codeshares, e.g. BA6346 DOH-BSR
