i am looking at flights for Xmas from KUL to MAN (via LHR) buying PE and upgrading to CW using a GUF2

The price without a GUF2 is £2230 (Booking into T and K Class) but when buying the upgrade together the price rises to £2790 , is this just extra Tax?

The booking is for 2 adults and 1 infant.

I know there is a difference but i wasn't aware it was that much

I would try booking over the phone. I have never managed to get BA.com to price those GUF taxes & fees differentials correctly. Assuming the infant is in-lap, the total differential should be around £255, according to Matrix.

The difference is almost certainly not that much - as @flyingnomad writes above the best thing to do is call up to book this - if necessary even booking the T/K fare first and then immediately applying the GUF upgrade voucher.

There have been quite a few reports in this forum about problems with pricing when trying to book a "book with money; upgrade with Avios (or GUF voucher)" - for WTP->CW - the wisdom seems to be that doing this the web-engine either doesn't find the lower-priced "T" fares, or forces the fare into a W-fare bucket.

I have done this before, and even if I haven't ran your numbers, it doesn't sound completely out of line...

What you have to remember is that there will be some additional taxes for you and your companion, but also that the infant won't be covered using the GUF2, but rather will pay a cost of 10% of the cash ticket for CW (the class you are upgrading to), rather than PE...

Good point - using the numbers above in post#2 the actual differential looks to be 255 (taxes/surcharges) + (2*(100-30)) = 140 as the difference in infant fare).

That gives 395 GBP, so still a bit less than the 560 GBP mentioned in the original post, but maybe there is only a higher CW fare (for the infant) available on the dates in question.

thanks for the replies , i forgot about the 10% being of the CW fare , so that i guess would be the extra £150

I will add up the rest and maybe call to do the upgrade with the GGL team , i did call previously as really i wanted the Jakarta connection , but they priced up as £4000 with the Y class fare from Jakarta.......

the other reason could be that some new fares (dual inventory) can't be accessed over phone nor work with TA and even with ba.com upgrades.

I had a situation where the ticket I was looking at in WTP showed as £515 ish and there was UUA space but whenever I tried to book as 'book and upgrade using avios', it jumped to £1200 ish. I called and that's the only fare the agent could find.

so agent and I agreed that I should just book the £515 fare, then call back and UUA and it worked a treat.

I called GGL yesterday and spoke to a great guy called George , he was very proactive took the details of the flights and called me back 15 mins later in Indonesia

Booked KUL LHR-MAN PE upgraded using GUF2 to CW for £2350 for 2 adults and infant.
