BA 1479 GLA - LHR was operated today by Qatar A7-ADI.

It was swapped out from a mid haul a321.

I was looking forward to the flight after it changed but in reality it was a non event.

I was in Y and I thought the cabin looked out dated, though it was clean. Seats were old and my seat creaked a fair bit.

The message from the flight deck referred to Qatar as a 5 star airline and service multiple times. Crew were decent but missed briefing the emergency exit row details to my Section.

We we were offered still or sparkling water plus a yoghurt and Cereal bar.

Service was was slow however I that was due to an issue between a member of the crew and a fellow passenger. From where I was, it look liked a cup of water was spilled on the passenger.

J was strictly enforced and when we landed at a remote gate near T5B, the J passengers were busses separately.

As far as Travelling Y is concerned, I would take BA with BOB over Today's experinace.

My partner came home (YYC) tonight from France and knew nothing about the MF strike. His first indication was getting one of the Qatar planes from LYS to LHR. Neither of us have flown Qatar before.

So I asked him what he thought of it, and he said "A lot better than the BA crap" Said it was a "proper" J seat and he though it much nicer than CE. Staff addressed each passenger by name, which he couldn't recall happening to him before on BA. He thought the hard and soft product was quite superior to BA's offering and enjoyed the flight.

Interesting, isn't the soft product the standard BA CE offering?

I was referring to the way the cabin crew did their jobs. He said they were more attentive, for example the head person came around and introduced themselves to each CE passenger and gave then some information about the flight, such as the duration etc, all while addressing each passenger by name. Very personalized service.

As an overall impression the bar was much higher than the CE norm. My partner isn't an avation geek like me, so doesn't pay attention to the fine details - a good proxy for an average passenger; but he described it as noticeably better than his previous CE/CW flights.

BA710/711 LHR/ZRH/LHR has appeared several times this month as op QR; our later flights have operated normally. I'm wondering if the pattern is likely to be repeated during the next MF strike.

I have to book a couple of flights for that period. Just wondering whether to get up earlier and risk BA710/711.

Has anyone actually been downgraded yet?

So, seems we are almost ten days into this venture and so far, while there have been speculations about potential downgrades from CE due to the smaller cabin/different seats/no curtain issues, I haven't seen a report on here about anyone actually being downgraded - perhaps I have missed it?

It was an interesting experience and highlights the way other airlines do things differently. Other than the hellacious seat cover colors and the different seat map that took me out of my favored 11a exit row, I enjoyed the free soft drinks and packet of walkers crisps. Free beer available on request (my neighbor got thru 4 in 90 mins on a 10.30am departure).

Hardly a word from the fight deck during the flight, and a very early "crew seats for landing" announcement (MUC-LHR) - we had barely crossed the channel. No timing annoucements. BA's embarrassment for this arrangement perhaps clear by the fact we were on a T5B bus gate, and not one Qatar a320 on a T5A gate (other Qatar a320's littered around T5B/C).

Last time I was at T5 there were two QR planes parked on the east face of T5A. I don't think BA are deliberately parking them in an attempt to put them out of sight.

A somewhat belated trip report, but I was on a QR A320 flight in J to MUC last Friday (BA960). The plane was tucked away on the side of T5A and we were bussed to the plane. The seat size made me giggle, it was comparable to an armchair rather than the usual BA flights to Munich with the blocked-off middle seat (first comment I heard from a fellow passenger - "look at those seats, BA should strike more often"). Service was extremely attentive, cabin crew introducing themselves, addressing me by name, they asked for drinks orders before take off and brought it on a tray (I'd have been happy with the trolley). Food was somewhat pathetic BA fare, a sandwich and a cake, but all in all a good experience. Although, on the (BA-operated) return flight they had the little bottles of champagne! Much better than the pour-on-request situation. When I commented on it, the rather sour-faced CC lit up and said that the little bottles were MUCH better and she didn't really understand why they had done away with them.

Just having a quick scan through how BA has been using the QR frames, seems to have been a high number of flights from T3 (VIE, BUD, LUX, etc. in particular) which is to be expected, and also they've been avoiding domestics (I only saw a single NCL scanning through).

If I were you, I'd book all my European short haul flights with QR - or even any other airline that offers that service between LHR and MUC.

One QR plane operated LHR-GLA/GLA-LHR.

Slightly lateral from the main thread but I noticed today that the BA 235 LHR-DME was operated by a S/h frame G-EUUA. Don't know if this related to the strike or not but I would imagine a QR frame may have been more acceptable for the J class pax rather than a CE layout.
