Free HEX upgrade for GGL
Havent seen this posted anywhere (apologies if it has been - search didnt throw anything up!)
BA are offering a free upgrade on Heathrow Express (HEX) to business/first for you and companion.
Details below.
No good for me as a lowly Gold - i'll just take advantage of the star alliance gold upgrade instead

It was introduced in August last year...and it's taken this long to be spotted!
Shows they really wanted GGL's to use it!

I've used it a couple of times without issue, let's hope it gets extended.
It isn't the first time they've had this offer and a quick forum search shows multiple threads.

I don't use the HEX often as the Tube is normally quicker and more convenient for me - not to mention cheaper !
But I used it in December last year and got a free upgrade as a lowly Gold.
I had been complaining about the lack of working toilets on board (which had caused me to leave the train, use the station toilets, and return to find Standard full)
I mentioned to the guard that if they had had working toilets I would have had a seat in Standard. I suggested a free upgrade to First.
He took a look at my BAEC gold luggage tag and said "You should be in First anyway if you have a BAEC gold card"
That puzzled me at the time -
This would tend to explain it
I would still use the tube though......

Well I must have missed this - don't think it was ever actually marketed to GGLs - should we have just known??

A couple of weeks ago a HEX ticket inspector (on seeing a BA gold-coloured boarding pass flash up in my apple wallet whilst I was switching to find my HEX ticket) said "Oh, are you a BA Gold customer, you get a free upgrade to Business First, please come through here". I was in the carriage next to Business First so took him up on this.
He said the offer had been in place for "ages" and couldn't tell me when it would end. I just needed to show my standard ticket and BA Gold card. I have subsequently done this a further three times and it worked fine.
Note that in the above interaction there was no mention of GGL -- perhaps this was a mistake by the HEX employee.
