Unless it is really busy they tend to space you at least 1 seat apart, so there was enough room to have my laptop out while i ate

The only place I have been refused food into the lounge is the United lounge at EWR which is ironic as the only 'food' they provide is nuts, crisps, and some inedible carrrot stick dips. I tried to enter with a pizza slice and was refused on 'health and safety' grounds 😝

In the UK it seems to be fine from what I can tell.
In the US, it's not allowed as there are fairly strict food regulations and lounges are treated as restaurants, and food ratings could be at risk if outside food is consumed at the time an inspection is done. The same is true in hotel lounges in the US, as I learned last year at the BOS Hilton lounge where I was kindly asked to leave with food I had brought in from the outside.
