It's not a question of trust: to get out from under the ban, each airline (according to media reports) has to pay for certain security measures at departure gates. BA seems unready or unwilling to do what these other airlines have done; the question is when, whether or if it will do so. It certainly doesn't seem to be in a rush.

Today I booked a return flight to IST on TK. I can take my laptop in the cabin and the meal is complimentary. Easy decision really.

Yes it seems TK, U2 and the rest have all shelled out for new security equipment. British Airways hasn't.
Says it all really. Alex Cruz's crusade for cost cutting is now impacting on safety. This may be the first example. Makes you wonder what others there are.

According to one article citing a report in The Times, "Enhanced measures, to be completely funded by airlines, are believed to cover the use of explosive detection equipment, including technology that can pick up bomb residue on laptops or passengers’ hands." The part in bold no doubt explains why BA is taking so long to meet the new requirements.

I am already having to plan my baggage strategy for my Hawaii trip entirely because of the CAI-LHR leg.

Just flew from CAI this morning and it is now worse than the last 3 times ... Even the airport entrance check people want to take away pretty much anything.... I got through protesting and got my stuff back though after getting somebody from BA listening to my explanation that it was just a USB adapter.
The next check took away my AA and batteries 😕
