Apologies if this has been asked before, but this thread is so massive and I couldn’t find the answer in the search.
The rules for redeeming the 241 say that you have to pay using the BA AMEX card. I read somewhere that you can use any AMEX card to make the payment but can someone clarify whether you can only use an AMEX card to make the payment i.e. you cannot use a Visa or MasterCard?
Ideally, i’d like to cancel my AMEX now that I have the companion voucher and my next card of choice would be the Virgin Atlantic card which is MasterCard.
Many thanks

I don’t see any reason to cancel the free BA Amex? Keep that and use it to pay for voucher bookings

Excellent tip; had my speediest / cheapest voucher this year by planning big spend - charged £195, spent £10k - voucher triggered - card downgraded and £181 refunded

You can’t do downgrade by live chat unfortunately this has to be over the phone

Only wanted to cancel to reset the 24 month countdown to get another welcome bonus. Think I’ll probably downgrade to the free card. I’ll likely hit the £10k for another 241 so could I downgrade, upgrade, pay the annual fee, get the voucher and downgrade again?

Down grade now. As you are about to hit £10k on your next cycle, ring and upgrade to the BAPP, pay the £195 fee, spend whatever you need to get the voucher and once the voucher is in your BA account, ring and downgrade back to the free BA blue card and you will get a pro-rata refund.

Just had my voucher credited. I charged more than 10k before end of Sept, but had a pending transaction that only cleared today. Still got the additional 6 months thankfully!
Time to downgrade my card with the 9 months pro-rata refund... out of curiosity, can I refer someone on the BA Blue card for BAPP?

People were closing Amex accounts and reapplying 6 months later for the sign up bonus and Amex cottoned on to it and changed the rules so that you could only get it every 2 years.
I have had my BAPP for the last 5 years or so since it is useful to me and never had to downgrade.

The commission Amex charges merchants isn’t cricket either. However whether you spend £10k in ten days or 364 days they still get your commission and you still get the voucher. Can’t see them changing their offer if someone spends big quick

well no, the £195 also plays a part....they may also factor people not paying in full thus incurring interest. Need to look at overall picture
just screams of being a cheapskate to me

Good grief.... cheapskate? Aren’t most people on here to maximise savings, find bargains as well gaming the system to some extent ?
